Broken Showers, Awful Staff

All the showers were built incorrectly, this leads to flooding and tiles falling off the bathroom walls, revealing a wall of moldy wood. Our utility bills were through the roof - insulation is non-existant. Noise is a regular problem. Office staff has no concept of customer satisfaction. Corporate ownership changes every two months or so, usually when the new company realizes how much reconstruction needs to be done on the bathroom facilities. New paint is no reason to increase the rent 15-20% a year.

Our apartment had a huge 3-4 foot hole in our roof undernearth our 2nd floor shower. Every time the shower ran, buckets of water would come down into our living room. At first they tried to blame us, saying we weren't using the shower curtain properly. By the time we moved out, maintenance AND private contractors had come out to "fix" it at least 8 times. It was never fixed. The walls behind our couch and the carpets under the hole had turned completely black with thick mold. We were starting to have chronic respiratory problems, and mold was also visible at all of the air conditioning vents.

Finally, they charged us $200 at move-out time for trash removal. This was in addition to $400 worth of cleaning charges. I can promise there was no trash in the apartment. They also tried to double-charge on our last month's water and utilities and threatened collection on the first attempt to collect payment.

Rude, opportunistic, exploitive, and unwilling to own up to their responsibilities. It was tolerable when the rent was low - at least we expected it to be a dump. Now, you could get a NICE apartment or even pay a mortgage on a similarly sized home for the same monthly cost. Actually, our mortgage insurance taxes are about $100 less each month than our rent would have been and our utility bill is about half now.
