Over all I have enjoyed my stay at Country Club Lakes. The office staff is generally a pleasure and from what I've seen there is always at least one girl in the office who knows each resident by their name. It's very welcoming.
The apartments are a little old and are showing some wear. Unfortunitely, it is like pulling teeth to get them to replace some of the fixtures, but maintenance is very willing to give you 101 different ways to attempt to solve your problem to avoid replacement.
Currently, they are fixing up the exterior of the building. I'm excited because the colors are more modern and they add youth to these somewhat aged apartments.
Interior wise, they need to make some improvements:
1. The mini blinds provided in the living room are pretty cheap and easily broken by pets or kids who think their pets.
2. The door in the kitchen leading to the laundry closet, let me stress CLOSET, easily comes off the hinges and can really be a pain in the butt to deal with.
3. The dishwashers are old and unfortunitely dishes often come out dirtier and grimmier than they went in... even when you prewash.
4. Fans are not provided in the bedrooms and the AC doesn't work well in the bedroom. If you get an upstairs apartment, your ac works even harder to cool a larger space due to the vaulted ceilings and if you have a solarium it works even harder due to the additional windows. Basically, the electricity bill is really freaking expensive.
5. Some of the outlets in our apartment and light switches haven't worked since we've moved here. The cable outlet on one side of the living room doesnt work either.
In addition to the interior flaws which can be fixed, there are flaws in the architecture of the apartments which unfortunitely can not be fixed:
1. Upstairs apartments are said to be "larger," but in reality they just have excess space that you can't even use due to the stairs. Not to mention, downstairs has a huge storage closet... do you think the upstairs offers this' Nope. Sure, you get a solarium and a porch, but where the hell do you put your stuff'
2. The kitchens are too small to do ANYTHING. There is no pantry and very few cabinets. A 5 ft area is not enough for a kitchen.
3. The living rooms are rectangles and they make it very hard to set up a living room set while making best use of the space.
4. There is no linen closet, the bathroom isn't large enough for a linen shelf, and there isn't enough room in the "walk in" closet to store linens... so here's the question... where the hell am I supposed to put linens'
5. The laundry closet is too small. I'm surprised my washer and dryer actually fit.
6. Did I mention that there is no room in the kitchen'
To be honest, I can handle all the flaws mentioned, what I can not handle is the lack of respect some of the residents have here. It's almost as though they think they own homes and have the right to call the cops on every person around them for making noise.
There is a huge problem in the 500 building with an older, very prejudice couple who feels as though everyone here owes them something. It's almost as though they've forgotten that though these apartments are very nice, that they are just that APARTMENTS. And not only that, but that they are APARTMENTS two miles away from a University.
I'll give you a hint, if you can't handle being around young adults, then living near a college in an apartment complex full of young people might not be the best idea. There are tons of houses and retirement homes /subdivisions in Jacksonville... maybe you should go look there.
Management, unfortunitely, has not been very receptive to many, many complaints brought to them about a particular couple that is causing problems with several of the households here at Country Club Lakes. It's almost as if people are being treated differently here due to their age and how much management is receiving in rent from the apartment renters... Needless to say, it is not a favorable situation and fingers should not be pointed at the many individuals being persecuted by a single couple, but the couple should be delt with either by being relocated to another apartment or they should be asked to mind their own business and accept the fact that this is an apartment complex.

I appreciate the details you provided rather than just saying that it 'sucks' or some other nonsense. Thank you for that. I wish I could say I appreciated your stance on noise complaints and young adults. Just because it is an apartment and not a house does not mean people should have to put up with excessive noise. These are people's homes even if they are not houses. They do have the right to make noise complaints (read your lease) to either management or the police if needed. Please don't use the excuse of 'young adults' or the university. It gives us all a bad reputation comparing us all to thoughtless hooligans.
