This WAS a pretty good place to start over. Having been a single mom with 3 kids and no where to go...this place was heaven! The office was inside of Desert Winds (the center of Caravan Circle), but it was relocated to Silver Creek office on the outside of the complex to the west. Then it went downhill.
Through the years that I was there, I was subjected to several fights with other tenants, my door broken in by a drug-seeking crazyman, and my children being beaten up and threatened by the neighborhood children. My children wtitnessed drug activity, gang activity, and homosexual/racial/cultural discrimination on a daily basis. There was always noise and the police frequented the area almost nightly...some even being hired as off-duty security at night.
The benefits to all of this...the breeze in the upstairs apartments was fantastic...the electric and other bills were very low due to the low income guidelines...my children learned a lot from being in the midst of some of the most unfortunate people and from hearing their stories...(people that had been chained as slaves in Africa, people that had been targeted as terrorists because of their skin color and/or beliefs ensued from 9/11, children that had drug addicts living in their closets, etc.)...but...we also met many happy and friendly people that were going through the same thing we were...an unfortunate event that brought us there and this place bought us the time we needed.
As Terri said in another posting...it enabled me to also better myself while saving money...we also now have our own home and although we are very glad to be out of "Caravan"...and we are thankful for the opportunity that it gave us.
