Keep in mind: these are very old apartments, and the neighborhood is anything but safe. BUT - the price is good. I've been there almost a year now and the section I live in has been great until recently with some new noisy tenants who just moved in on the other side of my wall (which is not well insulated - I can hear everything). But other than them, all of my neighbors have been wonderful - very friendly. The place is what you make of it and that goes for the people too. If you're friendly to them at least smile and say hi - the friendliness will be returned. "Do unto others".
Maintenance - I've had only one problem with a faucet and it was fixed immediately.
Grounds - they have pools, but I've never seen anyone cleaning or mainaining the chemicals - so the pools are questionable. Landscaping, from the entrance is nice, around the apartments is minimal.
A single guy, a young couple starting out fits this place perfectly. White or black - I'm white and haven't had a problem. Women, if you have friends over frequently to keep it from appearing that you're there alone all the time it would be ok. But given the area - to be honest - I don't think I would recommend these apartments to single women - just for safety reasons. And not a place for children either. Again, I haven't had any problems and I'm coming and going at all times day or night - but I do look over my shoulder and don't waste any time getting into my car or safely into my apartment behind locked doors.
I chose these apartments because they are affordable and they're OK, there's worse out there!!! If I was able to afford a nicer apartment, obviously I would have looked elsewhere. LHB will do though. JUST BE CAUTIOUS AND AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS....as with any place!
