JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man died Tuesday night after a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Sunbeam Road.
Just before 10 p.m., police were called to the Mandarin Pines Apartments in the 4200 block of Sunbeam Road to find one man shot. He was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center but could not be revived.
One resident of the complex told Channel 4's Melanie Lawson that the victim dragged himself to his doorway, then died.
Homicide detectives spent much of the night at the scene. Police said the victim was a Hispanic man, and later identified him as 38-year-old Jose Perez Garcia -- a Guatemalan national and father of four.
"We've got a few people that we're talking to that may or may not have seen the incident in question," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Pat Ivey said.
Less than two months ago, a man was shot at the same apartment complex. That man survived, but no arrest was made in that shooting.
Anyone with information that could help solve either shooting investigation is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
