The year and a half I lived (2006-2007) there I wasted hours killing large black spiders, waterbugs, roaches, scorpions and a few snakes out back. The bugs are everywhere here. They took my deposit and ran. The dishwasers and appliances are truly awful (think 10 year old Roper brand) and the ------- in the management office are incompetent and far too young to work in such a large complex. They can't handle it. They won't even accept a cash payment for God's sake... cause they can't trust their employees not to steal. Their attorney also has it's fingers in the complex so don't be surprised if you get hit with extra fees and BS. The quality of people that rent in this (I am sure still) overpriced racket is extraordinarily low. Every upstairs neighbor I had (3 sets in the year and a half) was loud and obnoxious... the last upstairs neighbor got robbed while one of the female tenants was in the shower... her baby was in it's crib in the living room during the theft. You can do waaaayyyy better than this craphole. The pool and hot tub were always disgusting even with the extreme chlorine treatments. My finances son's swim trunks were actually discolored after one swim in the pool - and trust me - we are not picky. If you are a perfectionist you will be extremely unhappy here. On the weekend it's PARTY CENTRAL for all the college punks and coke heads that live there so parking is a real pain in the butt.... There is an awful lot of parking and you may not think it will fill up... just ask around... or better yet, stop by on a friday night and check it out. I have no doubt that all of the good reviews about Paradise Island were placed here by the owners and management. It also doesn't matter which of the so called communities you might be considering - they all stink. Another annoying thing is that the maintenance guys actually hose down the hallways with a pressure washer without regard for the tenants... says something huh' One word to sum up this place: Cruddy

I don't know about that they seem pretty nice to me i have friend who lives out there and his place is pretty laid back and quiet you probably was in the wrong part of the apartments, and as for the cash for rent no apartments accept cash thats just a policy that they have. it's actually against the law to accept cash for rent at any apartment complex, you must have a money order, or a cashiers check to pay your rent, and as for the age thing thats not true either it dosen't matter how old you are if you have the skills and the knowledge to do your job that has absolutely nothing to do with how old you are. Also for the roaches and bugs in your places you probably wasn't to clean if you had to kill roaches, and bugs the entire time you live there that was your fought. That should tell you something right there, maybe that your not so clean after all, and if it was so nosey why didn't you call the police are report it to the office i'm pretty sure that they would have done something about it. Maybe you like the nose.

"Welcome to Paradise! Gentle palms welcome you home to your own private paradise where every day feels like a vacation. You won't need to escape to a far away tropical island to relax and enjoy life. It's all right here at Paradise Island waiting for you to experience." - http://www.paradiseislandjax.com/
With advertising like that should I as a renter really have to be concerned at all with determining the 'correct' part of the apartment complex to live in other than floor plan selection? Are you suggesting that I conduct demographic surveys on my own before renting? Also, please cite the Florida statue banning cash payments for rent at apartment complexes. Many of us have been making cash payments at complexes for a long time. There are these things called receipts, perhaps you have heard of them. Noise ordinances are extremely difficult to enforce and I am not really picky about noise. My homes are kept spotless. If your neighbors aren't cleaning and the pest control is ineffective bugs will be present - it's Florida. I like all kinds of noise, but not constant banging from all sides. The walls and ceilings are too thin for what they charge. Why rate a complex or respond at all if you haven't lived there? Is that helping anyone at all? Thanks for the seemingly personal virtual attacks on me, but I really don't care.

I don't live there, but was considering it. I noticed on a few complaints that renters are complaining about "college kids" well i, also have a respectable job and happen to be a "college kid". I don't party on the week days and rarely on the weekends, and yes if i have friends over it will not be any more than 4. And as for the roaches goes, roaches craw through the walls which can be transferred from apartment to apartment, so when the lady above says that she kept her apartment clean and they wouldn't go away i can understand what she meant. I was always taught to never judge a book by it's cover and that is certainly not what I'm going to do when I decide to live in an apartment. Thank for everyone's opinion.

and fyi.. yeah.. you cannot have a veh towed for parking in a no parking spot.. I never stated that.. i said that the veh is usually gone by morning.. so you cant do anything about it seeing as how ONLY the apt complex can have it towed. I said you CAN get a ticket for parking in handicap. You cant fight a ticket cause its on private property...lol. Thats what all handicap spots are on.. private property. Wether its at the mall...or a fast food place.. the owners dont regulate that. The officers give the ticket...Parking def sucks in some buildings...The only thing I can suggest short of moving is to complain A LOT.. they will get tired of it eventually and do something about it..

let me tell you something jen, I've been bitching >:( about it since I moved here, and now the lazy JSO officer (who is supposedly a courtesy office for the complex didn't even respond or call after waiting an hour when my other car was parked in, in front of my garage, it took me calling JSO, and a officer (who doesn't live here) came out within a half hour (still no courtesy officer)and he actually got out of his car (OMG! imagine that)and went door to door waking people up to get the person to move his car.
Then when I was parked in because two cars where parked up against the curb, in the no parking zone, when the courtesy officer showed up "oh you can get out of that" so I had to back up, pull forward, back up, pull froward, back up, pull forward, back up... all because that pig never got out of his car and tried to actually help me.
Also, like I said, the parking system here is a broken system. the only time you cant park in a no parking zone is when management or even the leasing office is here, even after that they just slap the green sticker on the windshield. Anytime after that no one will get towed, even if it means blocking me and others, and then they leave before both offices open.
So thanks for the advice and I'll keep bitching :) and maybe before you tell me to be active to get stuff done, you drive by building 28 and 29 around 6 am like this morning, the same cars, silver honda civic and white dodge stratus, parking people in.

I live at Paradise Island and for the most part I enjoy it. I believe some of the units are older, so before you rent you may want to take a tour of the apartment. I have never experienced any issues with noise, crime, or parking. Also in regards to the apartment complex being "party central," that is a little over the top. I recently graduated college and "party" on the weekends as well, but I can assure you a couple of "college punks" drinking on their balcony or playing beer pong in their garage does not make Paradise Island party central?!
If you don't like a variety of neighbors in close quarters, buy a house.. You get what you pay for..
The sprinkler water does smell like absolute ---- but, and I am currently paying 800 for a one bedroom, and I just met someone who is paying 820 for a 3 bedroom, but other than that its a pretty decent complex for families/students.

i am currently living in paradise island and will be moving as soon as our lease is up in august. we pay 745 (the cheapest rent they offer) for a one bedroom. Yes, its a pretty decent size, but not upgraded at all. There are very old appliances and the patio is very poorly constructed. I have a niece who loves to go outside and i have to constantly tell her not to get close to the edge of the patio because the rail is extremely loose. I have reported this to the mgmt office numerous times and nothing has been done. And as for the bugs, my home is very clean and while we don't have "roaches" there is definetely a wasp and palmetto bug problem outside, and as soon as any door opens they are very likely to sneak in. They scurry around the stairway any given night, and frankly is very embarrassing for me to have guest when that is the first thing they see. I have also reported this, and nothing was done. They send out newsletters every month showing the dates that they are supposed to spray for bugs in each building, and I know for a fact that they dont do it. My building was supposed to be sprayed this past friday so i stayed home all day to wait for them to come.... guess what! they never showed! Overall, the parking has not been an issue in my building, but i know in others it has, and as for "party central" i don't have to deal with that either. However i work long hours so maybe thats why, i know there are alot of college students (like myself) who live here, so i dont doubt that it gets a little rowdy once in a while, and you shouldnt have to deal with that if you have a family especially. I would recommend this place to anyone who doesnt mind bugs, outdated EVERYTHING, and overpaying, but if thats not you, i suggest looking around a little longer. ;)

I am considering moving here in November. I have read quite a few posts and it really concerns me. I am not sure if I accept or reject the apartment now. I do notice that the apartments are very old and outdated for the money but they are extremely huge and they are running a killer special right now for a 3 br 2 bath for less than 900/month. With the complaints about deposit not being returned, after a year I wonder how much will they go up on my rent. All apartments have problems but overrall is it a good place to live?
