The apartment: The walls are cracked along the edges and corners, the master bathroom door does not close properly- the latch does not match up, the sink had a cracked pipe and we noticed it after the first gallon ended up on the floor. The appliances are old: the stove door is warped and doesnt close completely making preheating difficult and the dishwasher is set at a 45 degree angle in between two ends of cabinet space making it impossible to secure it to the sides or the installer was just lazy. The screened patio isnt bad when the screen doesn't fall off.
The building/grounds: These building are about 10 years old in most places and it kind of shows. We've walked places just as old that looked brand new. There is never any rennovation or repairs to the outside. There are spots on the buildings where peices of tile are missing and paint is chipped like crazy. It sort of looks as if the building are held up by the simple fact that they haven't fallen yet... Pest control does a half way effort unless you bother them and the spiders are a little out of control at times. When it rains a lot there is some flooding around the entrance and one of the play grounds nearby gets immersed. The sprinklers work sometimes and fill the air with the wonderful sulfur-stench.
The staff: The leasing staff is very nice until you sign the lease. Any time you enter the office its like they're nice until they realize you're already living there. Maintenance isn't bad at the response time but its the quality of the work that aggravates. Twice our AC has broken and and twice it was fixed after.. calling twice each. If you find yourself having to make a late night call to maintenance... just wait until morning. Rude people are stuck behind the phones and they all just don't care. We're paying close to $900/month but it seems to be a hassle for them to have to do they're jobs.
Overall upkeep is very poor and its noticable once you're PAST the leasing office. We just about filled out the sheet with details about how the apartment is messed up; some we can deal with, some we've just excepted because all were ignored. We are halfway through our lease and are counting down to the day we can stop paying for this.

Great review. Let's see how long it takes for another "tenant" (i.e. employee) to post a glowing review!
