I have read through all the reviews and felt like I should respond as I lived at Portofino for 3 years before moving into a house.

Portofino was nearly new when we moved in in 2001. It was also under different management. Our original rent for a 2br apartment was $945/month. The rent went up astronomically from when new management moved in, so we saved up to purchase our own house. (Incidentally, our rent was more per month than our mortgage).

As for the good and the bad:

1. We did not experience a problem with noise through the walls between the apartments... Ocassionally we heard a faint noise of our neighbors booming stereo. However, the front/back walls of the apartment allowed in noise from the parking lot and courtyard. The windows were also not good at keeping noise out.

2. Mold. Yes, Portofino had a mold problem. Specifically, in our apartment, the mold grew on the window sills. We did not get sick from the mold, mostly because we would disenfect the windowsills when we noticed mold starting to grow. It was amusing that the maintenance staff painted over the windowsills in an attempt to 'cover the problem up'.

3. Parking was not a huge ordeal for us. There were times where we had to park farther away from our apartment. I think the funniest thing was when I was parked in a spot outside our front door and the Portofino staff erected a handicapped parking sign while my car was already parked in the spot! I am glad I did not get towed as someone wwould have though I was breaking the law while parked there. EEK!

4. A few pleasant things about the apartment... They will hold your packages at the office for you, unlike some other complexes. The gym is available 24/7. The location if you work in the Deerwood area cannot be beaten!
