Utter Disgust...

My girlfriend and myself moved into The Preserve at the beginning of April. We got a 2 bedroom apartment facing the creek. The first night we noticed the carpet was slightly damp near our kitchen. Thinking, "Hey they just cleaned the floors that's awesome it will dry soon." We ignored it for a day or two, then we noticed the puddles near the kitchen. That was when we called the management informing them of the issue. They sent over a carpet cleaning team, great guys by the way, and cleaned the carpet. Two days later, soaked again... so they finally decide to send one of their "crack" maintenance staff over, and they realized that our neighbors central air unit has frozen over and is thawing into our apartment. They remedy the situation by adjusting our neighbors air conditioning unit, pulling up our carpet and setting up a dryer to air dry the carpet. All well and good, but they forgot about the dryer, easily a $100.00 piece of equipment just left in our apartment. We remind them of their error and the come retrieve the dryer, but don't tack the carpet back down. It only took us 2 months to get them to come and fix that.

Now onto the rats...

About a month after we moved in, we noticed some weird scurrying noises in the ceilings and walls near the kitchen, but only at night. Thinking initially squirrels or racoons, I didn't bother too much. Then I noticed the noises coming from behind our stove, fridge, and dishwasher. I decided to investigate what might be back there, so I pull out the broiler pan and find about a 3-4" hole chewed through the wall, with rat feces all around it. I then proceded to pull out the fridge and find piles of dog food (which we have in a sealed plastic container, well it was sealed until the rats chewed through it) and feces behind the fridge.

I call the managers the next day explaining to them that we keep our dog crated when we aren't around and are worried for her health for fear of a rat coming and biting her in her crate when she can't get away to try to defend herself. So they tell us they will send the pest control person over the day after tomorrow. Great, I've got rats running rampant in my apartmen (next day, the tomorrow, I found a few droppings in the living room because they decided to travel apparently). Their pest control person comes out, places one glue trap by the hole, and a couple of box traps outside. The rats are unphased. Finally, they had one of their maint. people fill up the one hole we could see behind the oven with expanding foam, and place more poison behind the fridge. It took over a month and a half to get this completed. Mind you, we had new feces in the kitchen on almost a daily basis, and they were continuing to spread their little rodent "wings" and travel around the apartment.

All in all this complex is not worth the amount they charge you to live there. I'd rather the rent be on par /w the location and other residents.
