Be guarded with your life and property.

I just moved from Princeton Square after living there eight months. I never had any totally bad experience like I?ve read in some of the other reviews. However, this is not a place I would recommend to white collar professionals. I assumed it was a professional community when I moved in and quickly learned I was in the minority. I?m not surprise there has been shootings and rapes. There are certainly plenty of economically challenged residents and this is not an environment for the faint of heart when it comes to safety and security.
The amenities and general quality of the apartments fall short of what one would assume from the grounds and upkeep of outside of the buildings. The dishwasher in my unit ruined my dishes and glassware because the unit was so old. The carpet was probably two-three tenants pass due for replacement. The floor plan was plain and unexciting and ?boxy? and I felt like I was in a cave with only two windows in the whole unit. There are two pools on the extensive grounds and one near my apartment remained closed ?for repairs? nearly the entire time I lived there.
What bother me the most was several questionable and possibly illegal letters sent to me a few weeks before to the end of my lease trying to get me to sign a new lease. The letters said I had to give 60 day notice to move out. The lease I signed required 30 day notice. Second the letter said my rent would go up to ?fair market value? plus 100 dollars if I went on the month to month option of the lease after the original lease period ended. The letters went on to quote a ?fair market rate? rental rate much higher then what I was currently paying. The lease was explicit that the rent would only increase by 100 dollars over the current terms in the lease.
I submit that the management used these unfair and possible illegal tactics to scare less savvy tenants into signing a new lease. Sadly, considering the caliber of the typical tenant this ploy probably often succeeds. I would strongly recommend any current resident read their lease very carefully and know the provisions of the lease when dealing with the management. Don?t assume what the management tells you or sends you in a letter is what you?re obligated to.
To anyone apartment hunting, if you are on a budget and need to or want to live in the area then probably you fair no better or worse in any of the equivalent priced complexes near by. Single females and families with children might look for a gated community. Princeton Square is not gated. If you can afford a higher rent then I would suggest some of the more upscale properties along South Side Blvd. If you can not, then at least be diligent about knowing the terms of your lease and be guarded with your life and property if you lease at this property.
