Reading the past reviews, I sadly have to agree to some. But in defense of this property I have to say a few things. ONE-The roaches. This is Florida, people. Roaches were living here way before we came along. Unless the bug man is living with you, you're going to see roaches. We keep the apartment spotless and the occasional roach does slip by. Remember that your neighbor could be disgusting and they're coming from their apt. as well. Call the office and the bug man Mark (who is incredibly professional, friendly, educated, and polite) will come out and take care of any issues. TWO-Neighbors. Unfortunatley, BY LAW the office cannot discriminate against who they rent to. Black, white, oriental, hispanic, gold teeth, loud cars, or what have you, if the person applying for an apt. has the deposit and meets Fla. and Fed. requirements, then they MUST rent to them. They can only evict 'after the fact'. It sucks, but that's the law. THREE-Maintenance. I have seen the worst of the maint. who have been here. And yes, one was caught in the apts. but he's been fired a long time ago. So you're DVD's are safe. LOL. Sorry, the mental image of someone sittng on my couch watching Annie and helping himself to some popcorn was funny. The maintenance supervisor (Robert) has come along to clean out the bad apples and even hired a bilingual gentleman. I believe his name is Orlando. Any maintenance issues that are not resolved right away are not due to bad workmanship by the maint. men. Mainly the fact they have the same red tape to go through as everyone else. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help but sometimes corporate ties their hands when it comes to replacing things. Has YOUR boss ever mentioned the word "cutbacks"' It's a corporate world and no one wants to spend money. Sorry thats everywhere you go though. So I think that covers it. Ah! Last but not least, the Gate. There is a curse on it I believe. It has actually been struck by lightning two or three times. Not to mention as soon as it gets working, some idiot runs his car into it, knocking it out again. I just think of it as a pleasant, Victorian touch to add to the charm but not as a functional piece of security. But honestly, what's really gonna stop some hood from getting the code from his friend that the office was forced to lease to because of some whiny "anti-discriminatory" laws. Unfortunatly the world has gone ghetto.(listen to your radio some time)This is the price we pay for accepting that our kids listen to that stuff. But honestly, this is anywhere you go in Jacksonville. Unless you can afford to live away from the kind of trash this town breeds (I'm talking $1700/mnth in the "nice section" of town), then you're stuck in the middle class renting arena with the rest of us. For the price and the view (Riverfront or Not), it's really a nice place. We've had plenty of good times during the holidays when alot of the residents gather around the riverbank for fireworks and during football season you can walk by apts with parties spilling out onto their backyards and find yourself invited to join in. I have a young child under two and I never have a problem walking around the complex with her. Alot of the maintenance men will stop to talk with her before they head out on their way to a call. We also have two police officers on site who are willing to come out for any reason. Thankfully, I've only seen them once where they've needed to be called. And they were there instantly(one was still in his house clothes)when some kids were caught being mischevious around an empty apt. Again blame the parents, not the apts. You really only see the officers on a casual passing by. Not a weekend goes by where I don't see kids or parents with children playing in the tennis court areas without a care in the world. Trust me, I've seen worse in Jax and Riverbend is hardly terrible. Please check the date of any posting you've seen and realize how much has changed in the past year alone. Lastly, I am neither an employee nor do I have any professional relationship with Riverbend Apts. I just don't like seeing my home dragged through the dirt. Thanks for reading. I hope this helps.
