Don't Rent Here!

Where to begin...first of all we moved to Jacksonville without ever seeing this complex. Jacksonville sucks. Point one. It took about 3 weeks to get the apps sent to us and to get everything settled. We arrived at our apartment only to find a major roadway with TONS of noise and crashes all day long, outside our balcony door. Then we did our check-in. We are on the second floor, so when we looked up to our balcony ceiling. We were surprised to see a hole the size of a tennis ball in the corner with plaster and mold hanging from it. Then we noticed several other things wrong, such as, ancient carpet, missing light cover on the oven overhang, dirty oven vent filter, tons of rain that came in our bay window, spiders everywhere (BIG ones), roaches, leaky doors, horribly small kitchens and the crappiest cabinets you could ever imagine. We filled out our move in sheet and we were assured the hole in the ceiling would be patched, the doors would get weather stripping, the window leaking rain would be fixed, and our oven filter and lightcover would be replaced A.S.A.P. Not so. We moved in in October 2003 and almost a year later we are still battling to get the growing hole in the deck ceiling fixed (that now gives birth to even more roaches and spiders), the deck has begun to sway from the poor foundation causing the deck cement to crack, the oven filter and cover still haven't been replaced, the doors still leak air, the window was fixed (I believe) with all of the lovely mold left inside our walls. The carpet started to pull up and they just put some junky plastic tracking strip in place, so they can avoid the cost of replacing the carpet. Now the crime has gotten bad. Cars and homes broken into nearly every week, some guy was pointing a gun inside a car a few weeks ago on Sunday afternoon. NOW, they want us to pay insurance for their appliances. NOT our possessions, but their appliances. They didn't mention this until it was too late to get out of our lease. If you sign on here read your lease VERY carefully (maybe even take it to a lawyer) because you will realize what a mistake it would be to live in this crap hole.
