I have been living in Royal Oaks for about 10 months and have found it overall to be a satisfactory place to live. The location is great, the large one-bedroom apartment model I live in is great (especially for the price), it's pretty quiet other than street noise from Southside, the website is super convenient, and maintenance requests are always handled in a very timely and effective manner. The office staff gets on my nerves and could be a little more on the ball, but I'll take being annoyed over being unsafe or unhealthy any day. I've had some pretty terrible rental experiences - from toxic mold to armed robbery sprees to landlords who refuse to fix anything and more - and I would much rather live here than any of the other places I've lived in the past. I love coming home to my apartment here and I am proud of my residence when I have company over. I plan to remain here until I leave Jacksonville altogether, and I would recommend it to others. It's the best thing I have found after much searching in this area for this price.
