Yo!

The best apartment I've lived in

I'm a single military officer and have lived in 4 different apartments in as many years. Sail Cove is hands down the highest quality, most beautiful, spacious and all-around excellent of them all. The grounds are fabulous, with carefully-trimmed hedges, a wrought-iron gate, statues and a large lake. The gym is comparatively quite nice (only 1 treadmill right now though); the pool and hot tub are elegant and kept up like a hotel; the maintenance is knowledgeable, ever-present and quick: when my dishwasher wasn't working right they replaced the entire machine the next day; the office staff is extremely friendly and they lend out oars for the (free) canoes you can take out on the lake; my 1-bed is huge, with a large tub and great shower pressure, a built-in microwave, W/D in unit, alcove/bookshelves set into the living room wall with lighting, and a porch that's not to be believed: it is gorgeous, large and screened-in tightly (FL does have some big bugs). I've never heard a peep from my neighbors (who are almost exclusively high-quality people...the office can't legally tell you that). The reviewer who had the two complaints is sort of correct: if you live on the highway it will be quite loud, as Gate is a major business thoroughfare. I have never had an issue with parking; on the contrary, I always find a spot in front of my place. The location on Gate is convenient: you're right off of Southside Blvd. and there is a huge multiplex and many restaurants on the corner. They've also just built a Target practically across the street. However the business scene is never intrusive, the community is quiet and manages to seem mostly secluded. A small complaint is that there is only one garbage dumpster and it's on the other side of the property from me, but that doesn't really surprise me considering how nice they try to keep the appearance. The demographic is mostly young, with lots of kids and military families and some retirees. Rent is on the high side for Jacksonville ($830 for my 1-bed) but well worth it. Don't be fooled by the places that rent for $550, you get what you pay for, bottom line. I give my highest recommendation to Sail Cove for all aspects.
