Deposit Scam!!

After moving into Spicewood I read several reviews about how they try to keep your deposit. So when it came time for me to move I emptied my apartment more than a week early. I work at another apartment community so I had our carpet cleaners clean the carpets at Spicewood to be sure I wouldn't be charged for it. More than a month after leaving, I received a Move Out Statement which showed that I owed for carpet cleaning and a maid service. I tried to almost 2 weeks to get copies of the invoices and also for them to tell me how much of my deposit I would be getting back. I also explained that I'd had the carpets cleaned. They refused to give me any kind of discount on the carpet charges because "clearly the carpet cleaing (I had done) wasn't good enough". Finally, I was about to get the manager on the phone. When I asked her for copies of the invoives to be faxed to me she said "no, you can come in and pick them up". I asked if they were supposed to be faxed prior to this and hadn't been then why can't they be faxed now' She said it was because she was too busy to get to it. Furious, I asked for the name and number of their regional manager and immidiately called her. After 4 days I hadn't heard back so I called the regional office and asked for the Regional Manager's supervisor. To my surprise the Regional Manager called me back within 10 minutes. Finally, I was able to get a copy of my lease as I had lost ours in the move. Included in the lease is the Florida State Statute which says that any apartment complex has 15 days from your move out to provide you with written notice of all charges via certified mail or they forfeit their right to impose a claim against your deposit. So I wrote a letter explaining that I was not given this information in time and would expect my deposit refund cut within the week. Sure enough, the Regional Manager called and told me the check was in the mail. Please make sure that if you move out you receive all paper work from them within 15 days and if not, DO NOT let them charge you for anything!!
