Stay away from renting OR buying these refubished units. We moved in, with an 8 month old on Aug 1, 2006. According to management, the unit had been completely refurbished...we were the first to move in after the refurb.
We had so many issues...maintenance and management!!!
Maintenance NEVER arrives on time (or even on the day of the appointment.) Also, maintenance crews speak only spanish, never shut doors, and don't clean up after themselves. The manager claims he has the same maintenance issues...so tenants should just be patient. Manager has absolutely NO empathy for tenants.
The units come with a washer/dryer combo machine (European design) because there is no vent for a regular dryer. It holds about 3/4 the size load of a traditional washer or dryer. It takes 3-4 hours to do one load. (This machine washes and drys..an all in one).
Upon using the machine we had a leak that wet the carpet in the dining room. The drainage pipe for the washer was clogged with some type of filler. Maintenance came in and "fixed it" taking a day to do so. Nothing was done about the wet carpet. Remember...we have an 8 month old during this entire process who must be kept out of harms way.
We tried the washer again...again we were flooded and so was our poor neighbor next door. Maintenance had to rip up HER floor and ours to repair the drainage field. This took over 2 weeks!!! Imagine having to stay home from work or to have strangers traipsing through your home everyday!!! After this we gave up on using the washer/dryer and went to public laundry mats. Not exactly convenient with a baby in the house.
Next issue...yet another leak! A drainage pipe from upstairs to downstairs had a vertical split the length of the pipe. If we used the upstairs sink...the downstairs carpet became sloshy wet...not just damp. Yet another week of repair crews.
And then another leak...this time from the tub upstairs. Imagine sitting at the dining table and having water from the tub dripping through the ceiling onto your head, table, and food. Just lovely! It took maintenance a week to show up to fix this problem..and another 2 weeks to fix it. Also imagine having to live with the ceiling on the floor of your dwelling during this entire time. At one point the sheet rock crew were in putting up the new ceiling...at the same time therre was still water pouring through it from the STILL LEAKING bathtub. Can you say unbelieveable'''
And the final straw was the garbage disposal/dishwasher. When either was used, the contents backed up into the guest bathroom sink. Such a pleasant sight! And the smell was horrible!
The gates to the complex stick, don't work or remain open most of the time. And there was a murder across the street, drug dealers and prostitutes everywhere on Toledo/Phillips.
Management constantly berates the tenants for things such as tables on their own patios...they aren't allowed. (Hmmm...if you buy a unit as a condo...don't you think you should be able to put a table and chair set on your own patio''')
According to the sales team..the neighborhood is safe, apartments COMPLETELY renovated from the days of being "La Mirada."
Avoid this place like the plague... 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C
