In less than one month 4 thefts happened in the area. intersting point to note is theft happened in same apartment twice. And there is poor response from the mangement about the safety.

Have you ever thought of getting a security company to patrol the area? I'm sure you could afford it since the apartment rates are sky high.

I am the resident Manager in the leasing office and we are all very upset that this goes on within our commuinty and all around Jacksonville as it has been a growing problem in our city. However we do try and promote neighboor hood watch meetings that noone has show an interest in coming too. two weeks ago we sponsored a meeting to have a security alarm company come in and offer wireless security systems at a very good rate. We posted flyers at all 904 apartments in our community. We had 2 meeting times one day and one evening. Only 1 resident came. No apartment community can guarantee that crime will not hapen, however by having neighbors look out for each other and reporting and unusual activity we can decrease this withing our community. we will be holding another meeting on the neighboorhood watch and hopefully out of our 2800 residents someone will show an interest. Thank you |

We have, we are getting prices on that now. We usually have them come around the holidays when crime in the Jacksonville area seems to pick up. What we really want in our community is a neighboor watch program but that would mean that neighbors would have to come in and get involved in the program. Two weeks ago I had a crime prevention meeting with the apartment police task forse to come and talk to my residents, again out of 2800 residents about 20 people came to hear. And I was happy to see that turnout. I had block parties last weekend to get to know your neighbors about 10 people came. I think the only way to control and prevent crime is for everyone to get involved and try and help. If you see someone that should not be in the are call police. Neighboor hood watch is the best solution. Maybe one day it will come together. As far as the rents go, Do some shoping around, for the square footage that we have, its a great price. If you have an interst in seeing an apartment, I would love to show you. Thanks for your idea, good one. Mary |

No, thanks. I lived there before...wouldn't dream of going back. Between the cockroaches, horrible plumbing problems, incompetant help, dilapidated structures, high rent, and security "issues", I would rather live on the median on Baymeadows Road.

I currently live at Villages of Baymeadows and I love it there. The office staff are very friendly and are always willing to help. Regarding any crime that may have happened, crime can happen anywhere. Some people are complaining that management needs to do something, but they have. Did you read what Mary wrote above? Nobody showed up. If you don't want crime, it is everybody's responsibility to help prevent it. If you don't want to help than SHUT UP and quit complaining. Reading all these comments that say negative things about the community is ridiculous. Villages of Baymeadows is not perfect, but neither is any other community you visit. However, Villages of Baymeadows has done so much to improve. Do you remember this place before the renovations started? Now there are better apartments and tenants. Overall, I would say...If you don't like it here than LEAVE!!!

Believe me, I'm leaving. The renovations have made improvements, yes. But HOW CAN YOU RENOVATE 40 year old apartments and NOT RENOVATE the 40 year old wiring and plumbing? And then charge almost 50 percent more for the place? Have you lived in one of the apartments that flood when it rains? Have you had your plumbing back up all of the time? Have you lived in an apartment that had fires because the new appliances don't work with the bad wires, and the renovation didn't update the wiring to meet current codes? Have you had your car broken into three times in less than eight months? By the way, neighborhood watch groups work fine when people own the place. It WILL NOT WORK in an apartment community where no one has ownership, and it especially won't work when the residents feel the management doesn't care. It is the apartment management's responsibility to make it a safe place, not the residents'. Crime may happen anywhere, but it happens here WAY too often. |

Mary-Neighborhood Watch meetings would get a better turn-out if you guys would notify the residents that you are having the meetings. In the months that I have lived in this dump, I have NEVER recieved any notices for ANY happenings here. The only way that I even found out about the Kids Club is when I called the office several times to ask about it.

I cannot agree with the above comment because I have seen the sign for the neighborhood watch upon entering the complex. I have never attended one of their meetings (I am not the one resident who cares) and as my mom always says, "You are either part of the problem or part of the solution." So I guess that on the security issue, I am part of the problem. For the person who thinks that the management is responsible for everyone's security, that's a bunch of crap. All of JSO couldn't protect...what did she say?...2800 residents, especially now that they are having to cut their forces because of Amendment 1. Responsible neighbors who keep an eye out and communicate in lieu of complaining is the only solution. As for the comment about it being impossible in a community of renters, that is not true either because when I rented a house not too long ago, all but one of the 8 homes in our cul-de-sac were being rented and all 8 of us were in the neighborhood watch as well as several of the homeowners.
By the way, comparitively speaking, since Jacksonville is the murder capital of Florida, I think we should be thankful that all we're getting is thefts although that is no joking matter. My friend's house was just robbed three weeks ago and somehow her homeowner's association was not accountable although when people in apartments have break ins it's the management's responsibility? Hmmmm...
