DO THEY NOT CARE ABOUT OUR SAFTY

I have had someone try and break into my apartment twice in just the last month! So did the people next door. I have a crack in my foundation, and when it is raining all day, water comes into my living room. I also have had water come in through the windows and roof.
Back to the break in issue. One day I was in the Residents Service office to talk to them about the break ins that happened to our apartment, and at the same time another renter was reporting a break in, The other resident asked the Residents Service Rep if anyone else had reported any recent crime or break ins, and the resident services rep said Oh no, you are the first one . My jaw hit the floor! I could not believe that they are keeping things like this from us! It makes me wonder.. what more are they keeping from us' I don t feel safe in my home and it is very sad that even if I wanted to transfer to another apartment were I could feel a little more secure, they would charge me up the whazoo.
After I placed my complaint about put break in, Residents Service then recommend for us (all residents) to get a security system. And the told us that we would have to pay for all the installation costs and that it was required that it would need to be a wireless security system. As much as we pay in rent, I would think that if a property manager has had as many security issues as this property is having, that they would pay to have the systems installed. The security they currently have is not catching or lowering the amount of break ins. You would think that they would reevaluate the situation and add security systems to our apartments. I would even be willing to pay a small additional fee for added security that I can control and not rely on security officers that are obviously not doing a very good job.
I am a single female and for security to know that someone tried to break in to my apartment twice, and that they also knew that the cops were out and saw suspicious activity near my apartment, that they should drive by or walk by and say Hey, she just had someone try and break in, lets just drive by and make sure everything is ok . Nope. I have not seen security at all since the 2 break in attempts. I see more maintenance and new resident tour carts then I see security carts.
The only time I see security is when they are up at the old kangaroo sitting and talking while having a snack and beer. I also see them PARKED and just hanging out chatting in the parking lots. There also is not enough adequate lighting for this size of a complex. It would be a lot nicer having a lot more lighted areas. I honestly would not be surprised if security was in on the crimes that are going on. Way too much has happened, and things are just getting worse! I have personally had to go and have keys made just to drop off to the maintenance office, because they lost my keys 3 times!
On top of all this I just received a letter at 2 am, talking about more crime and what they are going to do about it...they said that they have hired 2 additional security officers for the day shift (7 am - 4 pm). The ones that we do already have don t do anything as it is, and I am sure the new ones will not be trained well enough either.
The letter also stated that over the next 4 weeks, that they will be fixing our locks. I feel that the locks that we have should already be working at 100%. Obviously, this shows that they feel the safety precautions they have in place are inadequate.
I don t trust they are giving a 100% to try and keep this place safe. This place is turning into what it was years ago, when women could not even walk to their apartment without being raped. In the past 2 months there have been countless armed robberies, drug busts, violence, car jacking, and theft.
The sad thing is, this place could be nice, however, they just don t have enough of an adequate staff to keep this place safe or adequate maintenance to keep our homes up to par.
It s come to a point that if we want things to change, we need to stand up and group together and demand for things to be better. I don t think safety is to much to ask!

I also had a break in this month in Casa Luna. Actually, it was more of a walk in. The perp walked into a door I had previously reported as not locking properly. I spoke directly with the property manager JS concerning the issue. He sent maintenance right over to "fix" the door. It still does not lock. I was told to just keep the bar down. I also received the letter. It stated that some of the break ins were people just busting in the front door. I have already submitted my intent to vacate. I will be out December 10th!

This is not the first instance that security has been suspect in this community. The lighting is definitely inadequate, especially on the main road. The apartments have great potential with all the established lakes and wildlife, but as stated, maintenance is overwelmed and understaffed. I went six weeks without A/C in the months of July and August, without explaination, and I had to physically go to the maintenace office to get even the weakest response. Never once did they return a voice or email, and they NEVER answer the phone! It also took them over 3 months to return my security deposit to me, as they wrongfully charged me late fees...I paid over $1400 for my last months rent there because I extended my lease one additional month, and it was paid on time! This was for a 2/2 w/1300sf!

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles! I lived in Villages of Baymeadows last year. My apartment was broken into several times while I lived there and management was very slow to fix my door. In fact, the last time I asked, I was told that my door would be fixed when they fixed it and not before that. I had small children at home and was constantly worried that someone would let themselves in and hurt us.
You need to get out of there. Get yourself situated someplace safe. There are many nice, well maintained and safe places out there right now renting apartments for better deals with excellent move in specials.
Be safe and good luck!

I suspect we should have a "strength in arms" and notify Ken Amaro about the break-ins and demand of Villages at Baymeadows to increase lighting, train "guards" (they are more interested in booty calls now - watch them as they interact with females - seriously) and other measures required to bring safety to a tolerable measure.
