The Alexan looks very nice, but it has some very bad problems.

First of all, while we lived there, we had to experience our building's fire alarm being pulled twice! They were both false alarms, but you have to wait outside (for a very long time) for the Fire Department to investigate before you can go back in to your apartment.

The funny thing is that if you don't see the fire truck... it's because they're stuck at the gate. You have to go to the gate and let the fire trucks in... THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS!!!

If that's not pathetic enough, then this will "wake you up" about how horrible the Alexan is...

The moron(s) that set off the fire alarms like to do it in the middle of the night... like around 3 a.m. Imagine that LOUD alarm continuously screeching at that early hour of the morning, and having to get your kids dressed to go outside. It's not a nice experience.

SEX IN PUBLIC...

There was always someone in the back parking lot having sex in a car. I actually saw boobs bouncing one time. Leftover condoms in the parking lot! We saw used condoms on a regular basis.

CRIME...

The Alexan sent out notices regarding car break ins. We never received any follow ups on the status of that situation. We became paranoid about our car after that.

There were bicycles stolen too. One was dismantled and laid next to our pond. It sat there for many months.

People's wooden addresses were pulled off the walls and thrown in the ponds.

LACK OF SECURITY...

The gates are routinely breaking down, so there will be times that either the gates are open all day and night FOR MONTHS AT A TIME, or your access card won't work and you have to wait for another tenant so you can sneak in behind them.

Cars are always waiting there to sneak in behind you, and they can, because the gates stay open a long time before closing.

People from the neighborhood adjacent to our apartment were always hopping the fence. It was normal to find these non-residents hanging-out on and around our stairs.

THIN WALLS AND CEILINGS!!!

Noisy neighbors partying all night upstairs. Ours were always moving furniture around. They also run their vacuums at all hours of the night! We could also smell what our neighbors were cooking too!

FROGS, TOADS AND SNAKES!!!!

I saw a large black snake slithering across our sidewalk. Others have seen them around the Alexan too.

Loud screeching frogs are the norm.

The most annoying has to be the toads that come in from the pond to sit in front of your door every night. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!! They leave large poop turds all over the place! It is very common to track their feces into your apartment

They must be territorial, because we had the same reddish-brown toad each night. The ones in front of the other apartments were closer to green in color.

COCKROACHES!!!

They are everywhere! You can spray, but it does no good!!! We had maintence come out to take care of this, but even they admit that they can't get rid of them.

PSYCHO NEIGHBORS!!!

Our neighbors rarely talked to us. My next door neighbor screamed at us the day we were moving in. She thought we were wanting to go inside her apartment or something and that we were knocking on her door. What a pscycho!

That neighbor had a hurricane party during all three hurricanes. Those morons went outside to "play" in the storms. We watched them. They screamed and yelled most of the time. When the electricity went out, then that was their que to raise hell!

The neighbors across the hall were two very flaunting --- guys that liked to argue with the neighbor above them, because his children walked too hard and they could hear it through their ceiling.

DIRTY POOL...

The swimming pool is typically filthy. My children got sick from it and we never went back in.

MOLD...

During the hurricanes, we had to endure severe mold build up in our closets for months before they completely fixed the problems. It took multiple calls and visits to get this accomplished. Even then, we still continued to have a lot of respiratory ailments during our time there. We (my wife and two young children) all had lung infections at the same time.

SLOBS...

The dumpster is always overflowing with trash. People put their garbage on top of their cars and drive the trash to the dumpster. If the trash falls off, they don't pick it up. It is not unusual to see garbage bags everywhere!!!

INCONSIDERATE NEIGHBORS...

You have to put up with idiot neighbors at the school bus stop. One guy is a teacher at a school, and he is a big jerk/bully type. His wife is a gossippy ignorant woman that accused my 6 year old daughter of being a -------, because she was holding hands with her 6 year old friend. How sick! She has her own children that she's corrupting with that stupidity too! Her husband is a bad influence on the school kids, I'm sure.

TRAFFIC PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!

This place is located in a horrible tourist area right off of Hwy. 192, which is having increasingly more and more and more construction from the area of the apartment towards anywhere of importance. Road widenings. Bridges being built. New business and home construction everywhere!

HORRIBLE PLACES TO SHOP...

Most of the stores around the area are worked by crabby locals that are sick of having to deal with tourists that are always wanting refunds, always asking directions, and always explaining how stores are run where they come from. The people running the stores treat all customers the same including locals... badly!

The Pizza Hut over there is very nice, though!

THE ALEXAN TAKES FOREVER TO REIMBURSE YOU YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT!!!!

Except for that, the people in the office are usually courteous and friendly. They provide cookies to the children and have nice little get togethers.

All in all, they seem like nice people, but they should really do a better job to make the apartment experience better.

The people that work there know that the items I mentioned are "normal" at the Alexan. They choose to ignore all these problems, so that makes anything nice they do or say... practically meaningless!

I don't recommend the Alexan. Basically, it sucks.

I'm looking at moving to the area so I have been reading the reviews. It seesm that this particular person has a serious lack of experience. Yes, toads do become accustomed to their surroundings and will return each night. Snakes, cockroaches, and other creatures are normal - you are in Florida, come on now. And if you have time to hear what others are saying about your daughter, and if you actually care what they are saying, you need to find something more to do with your life. Nowhere is going to be perfect and if your car wasn't broken into, then why are you complaining? I'd be happy that the complex even alerted you that it was going on. Get over it - I've heard great things from my brother who has lived in the area and his friends have never had problems at the Alexan.

I hope you and your family have found a nice, private home to settle into by now so that you guys do not have to experience living with all those crazy people anymore! Perhaps moving out of Florida would be an option also for you?

What this person posted about the Alexan is true. The two idiots above named, "ComplainersSuck" and "scarlettanki" are most likely Alexan lackies. Any sane person reading the comments by the poster would have sympathy, and would want to avoid this apartment complex. These two dolts jump right to contradiction. They are either severe enablers or employees of the Alexan. I'm sorry, but you just can't make up the stuff in that post. I believe it! I live in Florida, and I don't experience toads all over the place and tracking their turds in my house! Notice this other respondents conveniently ignore the comments about the sex in the parking lot, fire alarm pulls in the middle of the night, and the broken gates. Apparently, these geniuses include those events as "normal" apartment life. This website is to WARN potentional renters about individuals' experiences. These know-it-all twits seem to think that it's some sort of political debate. Speaking of getting a life... Why doesn't "ComplainerSuck?" or... as an Alexan employee... FIX THESE PROBLEMS!!!

this lady needs to take a CHILL PILL what kind of life does she live that she has to snoop around on everything that is going on in everyone eles' lives and has to complain about EVERYTHING!! She needs to worry about her own life or at least get one and leave others alone, and by the way the firemen have to inspect the complex for YOUR AND YOUR CHILDS' safety.. you DUMB A**!!!! get a f-ing life!!! and move out of fl to get away from the insects...

I WAS LOOKING FOR A NEW PLACE TO LIVE AND THANKS TO THIS WEBSITE WILL NOT BE LOOKING AT THE ALEXAN. I HAVE LIVED IN FL FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND COCKROACHES DO NOT JUST COME WITH THE TERRITORY. THEY CAN BE CONTROLLED IF THE COMPLEX CARED ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE OF IT. IF YOU HAVE NO STANDARDS I'M SURE YOU'LL BE VERY HAPPY WITH THE BUGS.

We've lived here at Legacy Dunes since Dec. 2005. It was a quiet place and we were happy. Then it changed hands and new neighbors moved in that were real loud and didn't care who they bothered. Then Legacy Dunes changed hands again and we're happy now. It is quiet here once again and they have removed a lot of the problem people. We just renewed our lease again for another year and if we don't buy a home by then, then we'll renew it again. I would recommend Legacy Dunes.
