I lived in Lakes of Margate from October of 2007 - 2008. My fiance's (now husband's) parents have lived in this neighborhood for more than 10 years!

All in all, I was satisfied with my 1 bedroom apartment. I liked the layout and my walk in closet was HUGE. The walls were a bit thin as we could hear our upstairs neighbor early in the morning...doing things that were definitely rated R!

Parking was tight when I first moved in but I think people have moved out since then as lately it has not been as much of a problem. Maintenance has always been perfectly fine, things have been fixed the same day I've called and Katie in the office is very nice and professional.

My main issue with this apartment complex was that I did not feel entirely safe walking around alone. This may have been my imagination as nothing has ever happened to me or my in-laws in the time that I lived there; perhaps I just need the security of a gated community to feel safe. We did receive notices when there was a robbery of a ground floor unit and I appreciated the heads-up.

Another issue I had was the people in this complex. Luckily our immediate neighbors were very nice and friendly, but towards the end of our lease a young girl in the building diagonally across from ours moved in and had friends over who more than once made racially derogatory comments towards me (I'm asian).

Landscaping is very nice in this complex - they do use the "valet trash" (for an additional fee) but I am noticing now that this seems to be becoming a standard for most communities. There are lots of dogs in this complex and beware the dog crap if you parallel park - there is lots of it and no rule about picking it up.

All in all I would rate Lakes of Margate as a good place to live. Move in costs were low and we were able to get a great deal when we first moved in.

I have not yet received my deposit back from this complex so there still may be somethings to complain about if they try to charge me necessarily once they go through the apartment to inspect it - but if that happens I will add another review.

I am sorry to read about the racially derogatory comments made towards you. Of course I do not know who your neighbors were, but what I would like to share with you is that I have always had the utmost respect for Asian people and their culture. Most all Asians that I had the pleasure to meet have been polite, friendly, and respectful. As for me, I am as white as a sheet of paper (German/Irish) and I wish I had a darker skin tone. When I am out in the sun, I turn from white, to red, and back to white; not good, and not fun. LOL. I have dated many ladies in my life time (of all races) and at least half of these girls are Asian. Your former neighbors were most likely uneducated and highly ignorant as well. Lastly, I know and work with people who are Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Indian, and ------, and most all of these co-workers, colleagues, and acquaintances are wonderful people.
