There's NOTHING Around here--HORRIBLE PLACE

This place is so far from EVERYTHING! Today, I ventured trying to find the nearest Jiffy Lube to change the oil in my car. The nearest location is 7 miles away after a trip on I-95, then 836 towards the airport and then a trip down Flagler Street (about an hour's drive each way in Miami's traffic).
The closest mall is Dolphin Mall and that's 10 miles away also after a trip on I-95, then 836 towards the airport.
Don't let the address fool you. Brickell Avenue is US-1...the name might be different, but you'll be paying a hefty rent to live in front of a four-lane Federal highway. As a result you can never have your windows open unless you really like car fumes and all the traffic noise. I have become accustomed to sleeping with ear plugs.
People from all places come and park in the visitors parking to go to the disgusting bars in this area. Just this past weekend there were two communing with nature right in front of my balcony. I guess they prefer grass to toilets. Ten sexurity guards couldn't do enough to keep this place safe and decent.
This area (Brickell) is also bordered by Miami's Overtown and Liberty City district. Areas, which in the 1980's burst in racial riots. Who's to say the same won't ever happen. However, living here will ensure that you're stuck in the middle of the battle.
Also, remember that you will be living within the boundaries of the City of Miami. The City of Miami is famous for poor services (fire, police, rescue public works, etc.). Also, your nearest emergency center is Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH). JMH is a community hospital that is overcrowded and the hospital where Miami-Dade Corrections Department takes all of their inmates.
The building is built so cheap that you hear everything your (up, down, next to you) neighbors do. They could be on the phone and you'd hear it. TV noise is a real issue as well. I am a decent neighbor and wear thick flip flops not to make floor noise for those living under my unit. But I can't say the same for those around me. What concerns me the most is that there are no concrete walls between units. Thus, if a fire breaks out (it has happened--read kitchen fire post), we all burn!
Smokers are a real issue since their stench travels though the hallways. The second floor is a disgusting smoker's paradise. Also, if you have a smoker living next door (as I do), his/her smoking stench will creep into your unit.
Also, you will never feel comfortable entertaining any guests at 1550 US-1. This is not the place where you'd bring your boss or business associates for dinner. Guests are a definite no. I wouldn't want my guests to be inconvenienced by this place or the handful of inconsiderate people that live here.
You will never know when the next rain storm will knock your electricity out. Brickell, even though it is promoted as a cosmopolitan area, is electrically serviced with old wooden poles dating back to when electricity came to Miami. Electric cables snap with the smallest amount of wind. So get used to the flashlights and candles.
Management is horrible and they could care less about your concerns. You can complain all you want about a noisy neighbor and they'll actually favor the noisy neighbor over you. As long as the noisy neighbor appears to have more money than you...he/she wins. Management is so pretentious! There are some bad apples in this place, unfortunately management is in that basket. Maintenance runs at a snail's pace. I've given up asking for my washing machine to be fixed. If it works fine...if it doesn't I take my clothes to the coin laundry on Coral Way. I am sick and tired of the shaky elevators. I never know if I'll make it out of there without getting stuck. When management puts too many things on the backburner, things are bound to get worse.
In all fairness, the landscaping is gorgeous. I like the trees that line the back and front of the property. Also, the entrance to the building is very nice. But, I don't live outside.
This place is overpriced. It took living here to realize this. I hope you will not make the same mistake. In all fairness, my unit should go for $750 a month not $1,700. Brickell is nothing but a Federal highway. There is nothing in this area but a bunch of pretentious places filled with poor quality people.
If Brickell is so "up and coming" why has it always been so down and out!'! bYr9ljUwtCbMRXE8dRDC

Amen! I couldn't agree more. Brickell is over-rated and 1550 Brickell is over priced; considering that half of the apartments face US1 and the other half face a parking lot. Aventura is a much nicer area.
