I was in a rush to rent since I needed to leave my last rental apartment. My husband and I pick this place because the price was thought to be reasonable. We were told by the manager, Mr. J, that this place was very quiet and very safe. I believed him. Yet, my husband and I had very loud neighbors (loud music, jumping, lots of alcohol). The police had to come constantly.

Also across the street is a NUDE strip club that has a LOT of shooting almost every night (a barber shop just opened called "Da Hood" right next to the strip club). Almost every night the police is there. It's gotten to a point where I am afraid to go out at night esp since I work late nights.

Other people are nice sometimes though I did catch one of the maintenance man peeping through my window (I no longer open my blinds). The manager/assistant manager are only nice when you are handing in the check for rent. The female is extremely rude and talks down to me as if I'm below her and the male is friendly to your face but talks horrible behind your back (witness this when he started going on about one of the tenants).

As for the laundry room, if you aren't there to constantly watch your clothes in the dryer someone will take it out before it even drys (had that happen to me once...all my clothes was placed on the table, soaked and someone else's clothes was in the dryer I was using).

The apartments themselves is nothing to brag about. In the kitchen we have no ventilation unit for cooking (the paint bubbles and is stained). The bathroom smells since the ceiling looks like it leaked in the past and I can see there was a hole (which is poorly patched) in one wall in the closet. My fridge is very old fashion (no ice makers, temperature control only in the fridge and not the freeze so I must keep the fridge part cold in order to have a decent temp in the freezer part...that means drinking iced milk). One sink. Paint peeling already (looks like all they did was paint on top of old paint) and there is ants in the apartment.

All in all, if I wasn't in need of an apartment quick I would NOT have chosen this place. I will not be renewing my lease once it's over which can't be soon enough.

*****I MUST SAY IT AGAIN: DO NOT MOVE HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. The shooting across the street is a constant thing. Police are always there AFTER the shooting. If you have small children do not let them grow up in this bad location. The cussing, shooting, and loud music is enough to drive a person insane. RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK AND REMEMBER LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING!!!*******

You are not alone. I left Ashley Place just over a year ago and never to return. I at first lived here because the place looked well maintained at first glance and the price was right and then it all began. Every year the rent went up and also the shootings across the street from the strip club. Then later after surving the shooting you drive down the street and you see the hoodlums blocking the public street with their big 22inch rims ghetto cars like they own the place. If there is a hell on earth this place is it. Also the manager at the new BK down a couple of blocks got shot dead in a robbery attemp.
