I don't know whether it was the lack of a basis of comparison or rose-tinted glasses. 1525 Pennsylvania Ave was my first apartment after college and the $725/month one bedroom served me well. I was used to thinking of the NYC/Manhattan apartments/boxes for $3000/month or higher, that several of my friends got. So when I found this place I was pretty (naively maybe) happy.

Recently renovated with fresh sheetrock, new paint, and good/solid HVAC setup, the apartment was in the north buidling all the way in the back. The carpeting was sufficient, but I would have loved a newer carpet.

I never had any maintenance problems aside from some recaulking in the tub. During the year there I had one cockroach and one gekko, both of which my cat killed and ingested. Chrisken sprayed for bugs once in the springtime if memory serves me right.

By far, the worst problem was parking. I never wanted to move my car once I parked it, which, like another reviewer said can take upward of 30-45 minutes in 'season' (roughly December-March).

The employees of Chrisken were incredibly nice and outgoing. Flash a smile for them to go the extra mile.

The neighborhood is noisy, no doubt, but I expected that in the heart of South Beach. A block and a half from Lincoln Road and four blocks to the beach, can't beat that if you want an 'affordable' location apartment.

The apartment setup is perfect for a minimalist black and white set-up (including stainless steel silverware and flatware. :)

Overall, it's been a few months since I've been back down there visiting friends, but this apartment complex definitely deserves a chance.
