The other review was obviously written by someone that works at Southgate. If they were truly a tenant, they would not be so thrilled. Rents are raised over $100 per month every year, instead of being increased with the rate of inflation (mine is being raised $1560.00 per year!). Also, the constant improvements the other reviewer mentioned means noise, construction, entire days without hot water or electricity, closing of the pool, and limited access to the elevators. The parking lot that you must pay to park in floods like a swimming pool with any amount of rain, and it is always full anyway, so there are many times you will not be able to park in the lot even though you paid for it. BUT THE WORST PART ABOUT LIVING IN SOUTHGATE is that the building is so poorly constructed and the walls so thin, I can here my neighbors urinating, talking on the phone, watching TV, having sex, etc. And I don't just mean one neighbor, I mean all four surrounding neighbors. And anytime a tenant moves out, even if it is five or six floors away, the maintenance staff will spend months hammering and drilling and sawing and sanding, and it sounds as though it is right next door. I have yet to have a full nights sleep in this apartment, and I will be so glad to move when my lease is up. Also, anytime you call security to report noise, they never answer the phone. If you go down to their booth, they're either gone or asleep. On an ending note, the management is so poorly organized and rude, good luck getting anything resolved, fixed or even acknowledged, because they never have time for anything. They went through a huge ordeal to get everyone to fill out a survey on managment, and nothing was ever done. Since I moved in (exactly 11 months ago), my kitchen door still does not close all the way and must be propped shut with the refridgerator (maintenance said it wasn't their responsibility) and my kitchen light has never worked.
Anyone thinking of renting here would be better off burning their money in an incinerator. I'll let you know if I get any of my deposit back!
