I was lured to Southgate Towers by their rent prices, nice location, and great view of the water. But, in the end, I had trouble enjoying my living experience here due to the building's poor maintenance staff and lackluster responsiveness to resident concerns. First, the elevators--very rarely are all three working. Today, for example, none of them worked and I walked up 14 flights of stairs with my groceries. This has happened a few times in the 14 months I've lived here. Secondly, Southgate Towers has plenty of maintenance men--but I can't tell that they do ANYTHING. My God--how many times do you have to submit a maintenance request to have your A/C filter changed (by the way--they've never changed mine yet after 14 months). Third--the washers and dryers--on the 14th floor where I lived, they don't work after one cycle. The motors on the washers won't spin the clothes after you've run them once. I've submitted 8 maintenance requests to the maintenance manager via the website but we still suffer the same issues. Try drying clothes that are soaking wet. Next, let me mention the parking situation as the Shops at West Avenue or SAWA. We went for almost a month without the gate working--had to buzz every resident into the deck and out of the deck. They had no way of knowing who had paid and who had not paid. My friends quit using their 2nd floor guest parking because SAWA has the machines rigged to triple bill your credit card for every parking pass. When I mentioned the problem--they did not even bother to respond. Why should they' Finally--I grew tired of getting attitude from some of the leasing staff. I know they think I'm a pain in the ass because I bring these things up. But, I pay $1369 per month rent $128 per month for parking to live with this --------. So, finally I had enough. I cancelled my lease and plan to move to a comparably priced apartment where I won't have to put up with these hassles. I hope that you will make a similar choice and save yourself some headaches.
