AWARD given to Design Place for Worst Place to Live

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

I've lived here for 6 months. Came from out of state and choose Design Place b/c of how close it is to my work and b/c the rent is not to bad w/ the convience of being so close to everything. I saw pictures from their website and from craigslist. I read the reviews and decided to make the best of it for 1 year and upgade.

Here's what I've encountered: from the leasing lady taking us to our apartment, driving the wrong direction through a do not enter sign and leaving us lost as to how to get back to our apartment. She carried this attitude of "I've got your money, your on my time now." Even with the process of signing the lease agreement.

When they ask you do you want an apartment by the pool, if yes it costs more... what they really mean is if no, we're going to stick you in the back, where all the apartments on the outside look like your in a 3rd world country. You have to drive through many pot holes in the back. Once you drive by the garbage area you feel like your in a land fill. There's so much trash overspilling from the trash area, water gets backed up around there when it rains, mix it with the heat and it stinks. I feel bad for the people that have to live right next to it. Ok right next to there is a laundry room that looks like trailer from a semi truck. It costs a $1.75 for each load and you have to buy a laundry card from the office during office hours in order to do laundry. What an inconvience and over priced. There's no air conditioning, so your out in the elements, trash piled right across from you with huge mound of backed up water.

The fire extinguisher expired over a year ago, I told an office personal six months ago and they never did anything. I can hear the people below me. For the most part the security is nice; however they have a couple people who have hot heads and act like they are all authority. FYI: if you decide to live here anyways, be aware that when your lease is up to resign and there may be a special savings involved, they put it on your back door. Now if you go out your back door no problem. However, if you only use the door which is accessable to the parking lot your out of luck. Any nasty notes threatening of eviction, those well be on the back door... notices of them coming to service the air conditionair, those well be on the back door w/ out a date of when it was placed. NOW, when they want you to recruit people to live in Design Place, they'll put it on your front door, the door you use to access the parking lot.

Entering the complex: if there's visitors infront og you at the security gate, you have to wait until they get clearence. What an inconvience. If you live in the back you have to drive all the way around. Don't go through the do not enter sign to save time. A woman here did that all the time to avoid pot holes and she recieved a warning sticker saying she'd be towed next time. Then a week later she said she received a letter on her back door... go figure... threatening to evict her if she did it 1 more time due to the fact they received many complaints. Hence the fact she only received 1 warning, never pays rent late, doesn't bother her neighbors. Where's the common sence of threatening to evict a person who pays on time and only received 1 warning. Seriously. The management doesn't value good tenants... the ones who are paying their wage.

The outdoor plants: the management has spent a lot of money on the maintance and planting plants. What about the looks of the buildings, what about the inside... it's tackie.

The apartments: cheap. Had one case of cauch roaches and I got rid of them. Now I just gave ants all the time. I even paid an exterminator to come here and spray and put up bait. That didn't work.

If you have kids, raise them some where nicer. A place that you both can feel proud of. Don't come here unless you don't mind all of the above.
