Underhanded and Overpriced

The problems at Portofino won't be evident until you actually move in because they paint a very pretty picture to you with their model apartments and are careful not to show you the actual amenities up close.
*Model Apartments are on the first floor of the first building, the one that is the nicest and most kept up. But if you're unlucky to move to a different building, you might get placed on a floor that is drab, ugly and not kept up
*The Elevators are always breaking/poor condition
*The pool chairs are almost all broken and have been the entire time I've been here (2 years)
*The 'pretty gazebo' that they show is nice, until you look close and realize the paint is peeling and the railings and wood are falling off of it or have broken off...still broken after months
*My AC broke and was leaking buckets of water onto my floor...it took 4 calls to the maintenance people and threatening with photos of the damage to get anyone to move quickly enough to fix it.
*once fixed...it broke again in three weeks.
*there are always cops around because the neighborhood isn't so great
*the hallways and elevators smell
*there's a 15 foot long stain of black oil (or something) that has been splashed down the hall of building 40, floor 8...and it's been MONTHS...change the carpet already!
*maintenance barely speaks english, the one that does has an attitude
AND THE KICKER!!!!!! I HAVE ALWAYS PAID MY RENT ON TIME, THROUGH THE MANAGEMENT DOOR SLOT. I ASKED THE MANAGEMENT OFFICE HOW SHOULD I DELIVER MY 60 MOVE OUT NOTICE TO AVOID THE FEES, BECAUSE DELIVERING IT IN PERSON WAS NOT AN OPTION BECAUSE OF MY WORK HOURS...THEY SAID "PUT IT IN THE SAME SLOT". SO I DID.....NOW, TWO WEEKS BEFORE MY MOVE OUT DATE THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT I NEVER DID AND ARE TRYING TO RUIN MY CREDIT BY CHARGING ME ALL THE PENALTY FEELS OR STAY AN EXTRA MONTH....THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR FOLLOWING THE RULES AND THEIR PROCEDURES. I FIND IT VERY CONVENIENT FOR THEM THAT THEY CAN GET 12 MONTHS OF RENT BUT A 60 DAY NOTICE THE "NEVER RECEIVED". THANKS TO THEM, THEY'VE RUINED THE ONE YEAR OF LEASE HISTORY THAT I HAVE WITH THEM.
They say you get what you pay for...but in this case...you don't....the prices are ridiculous for how shabby and sh*tty the places are...not to mention..1.25 to wash and 1.25 to dry...with one washer per floor...charge me 5 bucks a month for water instead please.
don't move here...avoid it...you'll think it's great in the beginning....but the worst is trying to move out....they are underhanded dishonest business people. And you won't win.
Oh...there were a few pro's to this mess
*There is plenty of parking...that's never a problem
*The gate guys are pretty nice
*they just started recycling
*walls are pretty thick...I've never heard my neighbors...ever...

the majority of what you say its very very true, although i would have to disagree with the PRO'S
1) parking is a hassle at building 30, they should just assign parkin for each tenant instead of having us park all the way in the middle of the complex
2)the security at the gate that used to be there was very nice, now they've hired a whole new staff that barely speaks english -- worst part about it, i gave them a new number to call, which they never do and anyone visiting always has a hassle getting in
3)recycling is the only plus
but, 4) the walls are like paper, you may not hear your neighbors, but if you lean on the walls you literally fall in; also the walls in the hallway are really thin, you'll probably end up in the first apartment if you happen to lean on it
