Expensive, but far from the hellhole described by other reviewers

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
After reading the recent scathing reviews here, I felt compelled to write a quick review. I've lived here for nearly 2 years. And, while I hate Miami with a passion and wouldn't advise my worst enemies to move to south Florida, it isn't because I have a negative view of this apartment complex.
Granted, this is a high-rent district. Though, with the current horrible state of the real estate market here, I suspect renters here will still make out better than new homeowners for some time to come. For the obscenely high rent ($1800 for a 2 bed/2 bath unit with two small balconies in my case), you get what amounts to a townhome with a garage in an overcrowded but safe area of Miami.
No, the units aren't extravagant, luxurious palaces. But, they definitely aren't worn-down, rat-infested dumps, either. This is a quiet complex of what appears to be primarily 30-something singles, couples, and young families. The landscaping is actually well done. The entire complex underwent a complete exterior paint job about a year ago, and looks quite nice.
The front office staff have never been a problem for me, even after the changing of the guard that happened about a year ago. No, they're not super-cheery. But, this is Miami, the land of the pretentious, rude a-hole. So, admittedly, my expectations for customer service here aren't particularly high.
The gym is indeed tiny, with one treadmill, one elliptical, one stationary bike, a universal gym, a few nautilus-like machines, and a few dumbbells. But, I've never seen more than two other person in there other than myself, so the size has never been an issue for me. You're right on the 3 mile jogging/bike path that encircles the golf course anyway, so that's usually a nicer alternative than burning calories on an indoor treadmill. And, yes, the pool is dinky. But, who cares' If you really want to swim or lay out and work on your melanoma, the ocean's only about 3/4 of a mile away.
Other than the high rent costs, the other major warning I would give is that the water pressure here is exceptionally low. This began last summer and correlated with the onset of more stringent local water restrictions and, presumably, restricted water flow into the complex courtesy of the Miami-Dade water authority. While I know that this is not an Aventura-wide phenomenon, I have spoken with neighbors who have the same problem. So, while it's possible that the low pressure is worse for certain buildings in the complex, mine is definitely not an isolated case. In fact, the pressure was so absurdly low last summer that it was impossible to take a shower in the morning until I purchased a shower head on the internet specifically designed for low pressure conditions. Even now, the shower head pressure is pretty lousy, and were I to venture to draw a bath in the upstairs tub, it would literally be a 1-2 hour affair.
That said, if someone absolutely must move to northern Dade county, I would recommend this place. Especially if, like me, you have a lot of crap and need a garage to store it in.
