Not Luxury but Good

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005
I lived here for 7 months while on active duty at SOUTHCOM . Just a short note, I moved in shortly after it opened and had a new apartment and I was in the military so my experience may be influenced by those two things. With that said I think that allot of the reviews that I have read are not a good reflection of the place. The good. The price was reasonable for Miami standards. The buildings and grounds where well kept. I saw the people each day either cleaning the buildings or the grounds. I never had a problem with the Management. I had a few things wrong with the apartment when I moved in but they where corrected quickly and correctly. It is a gated community and the security people based on my experience did there job and patrolled the place regularly and from having lived in Colombia I felt safe and secure. Theres a small shopping center across the street with a movie theater, dollar store, UPS Store and Home Depot. And down the street there is a strip mall with a grocery store (Publix) and Office Depot. The mail boxes are good sized and they have package boxes for oversized parcels that you may receive. The office will also accept packages for you. It has central air and come with a microwave. Large dual elevators.
The bad. They let people have dogs, and small ones at that. People let their dogs crap on the lawn. The walls are not concrete and could be better insulated for noise. And some people crank up their music. There isnt that much closet space in the one bedrooms and the kitchen doesnt have a good layout in terms of storage and working space. There are no Washer/Dryers in the apartments themselves, but there are large clean washrooms on each floor. The name says Royal Palms Luxury Rentals but the building material is just standard apartment style. No marble countertops just laminated particle board and the old standby standard for apartments, tan carpeting. The water left an orange stain in my bathtub along the drain. After seeing this I drank bottled water. I forgot to ask what caused it. When I moved out my only compliant was that they took $3.00 out of my damage deposit to pay the water bill. I would have liked to received the final bill myself and pay it. And when I called the number to the corporate office to talk to someone all I got was an answering machine and not return calls after leaving five messages. Also most of the people no speak English which is kind of annoying
All in all I would recommend it. It was close to work, close to the basic stores I shopped at and the price was right.
