My fiancee & I had read the reviews and decided to move here because of the price. Its a nice-looking neighborhood yet my landlord COMPLETELY DENIED that Mireya (the property manager) was a difficult person. The very first time we walked into the association office to take the 138-QUESTION TEST Mireya completely embarassed and belittled my fiancee in front of the line of people who were waiting to pay their rent. Everyone whispered to us, "dont take the test, don't move here!" Yet since we had already given our deposit & signed the lease with the apt. owner, we had no choice. (big mistake: if you are renting from an apt. owner, make sure you get approved by the association BEFORE you sign a lease or give a deposit)
Another problem that no one warned about (not even the reviews) are the DAMN FLOCK OF PARROTS that live in the neighborhood trees AND WAKE YOU AT THE CRACK OF DAWN MONDAY-SUNDAY!! (this obviously has NO SOLUTION)

I encountered this same problem and had to go to court to get my deposit back. Here's the deal, in the lease it must specifically say something about being approved by the association. If it does not have a clause for this, you signed a lease under false pretenses and essentially the owner tricked you into signing the lease. I won in court and got back over $2,000 from the owner who refused to return my deposit. I almost think that these owners might be running a scam of some sort with these deposits. Anyway, if you gave the owner a deposit and the lease does not have a clause about approval, take him/her to small claims court. If they are smart they will simply return the money. Mine refused to negotiate at all and had to pay back more than I even gave him in the first place but he was arrogant and stupid; maybe your owner is not that dumb.
