Superficially nice - but watch your back (and wallet)

I live in the Oakwood for 14 months. At first, you will be taken in by the beauty of the building. After a while, you come to realize it is low quality material. The 2 bedroom apt was large with a good floor plan.
Despite being in a corner unit, the neighbor across the hall plays in a band and practices the drums (yes drums) at night. After numerous complaints, Oakwood finally offered to move me to a different unit, at my own expense. The parking garage is a bit tight and where I parked (close to the exit door) people would frequently spit on my car! After complaining numerous times, I eventually got a parking spot on the top floor. A pain to exit, but at least my car was not being decorated. Overall, I found the maintenance and security staff lax and uninterested in making our stay pleasant. When we moved out, Oakwood charged us to replace all the carpets in the unit. I asked to see the newly installed carpet before I shell our $2000.00, but they refused. As luck would have it, the new tenant works in my office and I was able to go by for an inspection. I could see the remnants of a stain I made, indicating the carpets were only shampooed, not replaced. I raised this with the front desk and was given nothing but double talk and the run around. If I had more free time, I would call a lawyer. In all fairness, I am from the North/East and have been told by some Miami natives that this is the norm here. Compared to a NYC apartment, you get a lot more for a lot less here, making my overall stay adequate.
