One of the best for the price

I moved to Naples in June 2006 and spent the rest of that year renting a condo from some snowbirds in a great walkable neighborhood. In December I had to get a new place as they would be coming back down for winter. I searched for months and finally settled on Bermuda Island because they had decent prices, allow pets, have a sidewalk around the "lake" (many condos/apts do NOT have a sidewalk or walking path), and were running a two months free "renovation celebration" because they were in the midst of an exterior facelift. Of course it was a noisy renovation, and I lived in a building with many extremely loud and sometimes obnoxious foreign exchange students, so the first 6 months were a bit rocky. In June 2007 they all moved out and everything was much more peaceful.

Positives:
-Generally good groundskeeping
-Many dog potty stations with bags provided
-Nice sidewalk around the lake
-Friendly and usually helpful office staff
-Great maintenance staff - they took care of any concerns immediately while we were at work
-Good location in north Naples - grocery store just down the street
-My dogs chewed up the carpet when they were puppies and I was not charged for it. I suspect this was partly because the carpet was not new when I moved in and I lived there for a year and a half, so it was probably on their list of things to replace anyway.
-Good office hours - they are open every day of the week, which is another reason I ended up moving in. The best day for me to apartment shop was Sunday and most offices are not open that day.
-You are allowed to paint your apartment provided you re-primer it before you move out. The colors warmed it up and gave it a homey feeling.
-There is always more than enough parking and they just resurfaced the parking lot in early 2008.

Negatives:
-Very loud neighbors who used to party til 3am on Wednesday nights when I first moved in. Some of them were really nice, but they didn't understand the courtesy you need to have while living in an apartment with thin doors and windows. There were occasional latenight shouting matches that kept me up. I could hear every word they were saying while lying in my bed trying to sleep. This ended when they all left in June 2007.
-Creepy neighbors. Being extremely small and petite (4'11") I was intimidated several times by men who came from out of nowhere, sometimes after dark while I was walking my dogs. They would make weird comments and ask strange questions. It made me very uneasy. I was paranoid about someone entering my apartment if I stepped out with the dogs, so I kept it locked and chained whenever possible. When I moved in, I noticed my security system cord had been cut in the master closet, so it never worked. I didn't notice this until after signing the preliminary inspection papers and I never had them fix it.
-Most packages are delivered to the office and they do not notify you. If you don't get a sticky note on your door, you have no way of knowing there is something down there for you. Occasionally we tracked packages and went down to pick them up and they told us there wasn't anything for us. We had to persuade them to look again until they found it because it was indeed back there.
-There seems to be a very high percentage of smokers here, at least on the ground floor. When I first moved in (December 2006), the weather was beautiful, but I could not open my windows or balcony doors because the people below were pot and cigarette smokers and I didn't want it coming into my place.
-No outdoor lighting around the lake except in the pool area.

Most of my complaints with this property have to do with the neighbors, rather than the management. One time I came home from work to see several police officers arresting a man in my buidling. That said, most of the residents take pride in their homes and are very nice. There are often children playing outside and the residents have pets of all kinds. I moved out after purchasing a house in South Naples. I feel lucky to have found a decent apartment compared to some of the horror stories I've heard from others in Naples.
