Pretty but has problems

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
Moved out 8/1/2004 after 2 years. I agree with other's comments about recent management problems. Some nice guys on the maint staff though.
Here are the things that bugged me:
Pool has 10pm curfew and a no alcohol rule, however they never enforce either. Management tells you to call the police--who are less than enthused about enforcing an apartment rule and will take over an hour to get there. They used to padlock the pool at night but stopped. If you're next to the pool try to go sleep with people in it at midnight or later! Fun to watch maintenance fill a trash bag with beer bottles in the morning.
A few residents leave their trash in the hallways which leak and leave large gross stains.
The doors are all spring loaded, which means if you don't hold it all the way while closing, it slams. And shakes the building.
What kind of person would think it ok to practice on an electric guitar with an amplifier, in an apartment' My neighbor!
Or who would practice drums in an open garage' Another neighbor!
One thing they don't volunteer to regular residents is they rent some units like hotel rooms. Which means you get large groups stuffed into a room who have frequent parties and don't care about being nice to neighbors.
I also noticed recently the daily habit of people parking in handicapped stalls with no special tag. Also due to crowding several cars now commonly park next to curbs in non parking areas, driveways and thru-ways.
A group of kids recently started riding gas powered scooters in the complex. In hallways, in fact anywhere. Very dangerous, very annoying (sounds like leaf blowers) and of course, goes on for days because management doesn't care.
Every now and then you'd get the harshly worded flier in the door about grills being illegal on balconies. Yes, not just against the rules, but they're not legal by fire codes. Yet you can drive around and count probably 50 on balconies.
Management is all about the sale. Attactive women in the leasing office (NEVER saw a guy working there) well decorated office and the appearance of a lot of amenities. Oh, and don't forget the golf cart for showing prospective residents around. Once you sign that lease though, you mean nothing to them.
Things I liked:
I had a great view of the Disney fireworks. Not every apt does though.
The apartment was nice, no bug problems, nice floorplan, lots of garages available (and you can park in front of your garage giving you two guaranteed spaces.
Very close to Disney, in fact you can be at Downtown Disney in 5 minutes or the parks in 10.
Maintenance guys always tried to be helpful.
Attractive complex.
My advice'
Ask for records of noise complaints for all apartments you'll share a wall, ceiling or floor with, plus the one you'll be across from.
If your unit is in the back of the complex you won't have to listen to as many cars and motorcycles drive by. In the front of course you'll hear all of them.
Don't get a unit with a pool view unless you can handle the noise.
Or just look somewhere else. ;-)
