I am currently still living here with another year left on my lease although I am seriously thinking of breaking it considering conditions.

I was moving back to Florida from Texas. I had my family take care of all the papers ahead of time and I showed up to pay the fees and pick up the keys. Then the staff had a huge issue with my adding another person to the lease at the last minute and they wouldn't let me drop the stuff off inside my apartment while they got the paperwork cleared. Even though I was already in the lease but I was trying to get my boyfriend in. And considering that I just drove all those miles.

Anyway, so we move in and find that the last owner had a dog, which left this huge mark on the carpet. We have a new puppy and we realize that it is going to become a problem since that will make her want to 'relieve' herself there. So I write that down amongst a bunch of other problems. Such as windows that don't fit in properly, holes in screened in patio, wood rot in patio, unhinged/loose dishwasher, bad paint job, very loose outlets, roach problems, etc.

After a change of staff which led to a delay in maintenance work. They show up and only get half done. I make another request to finish the other half. And it doesn't all get done. The outlets are all loose. The wood rot is looking dangerous. It's been almost six months of the bug man stopping by and we still have roach central occurring here. The roaches are HUGE problem here. Also, until this day they have never fixed the carpet with the stain which I'm sure I will be blamed for when my lease is up. Maintenance comes in with this 'we really can't do anything here' attitude which just doesn't make you want to call them back anymore.

As for the neighborhood, I am used to unsafe neighborhoods. But be warned that is is not safe. Less than 10 miles away there is a prison/jail and there is always a search helicopter passing by with its huge searchlights over the apartments. Always police and ambulance sirens wailing. The neighbors all play very loud music or talk very loudly outside. There is no sound insulation in the apartment and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. I live on the second floor. And my upstairs neighbors every footstep is heard which is very annoying. And apparently our every footstep annoys our downstairs neighbor. Which does not foster good relations with your fellow neighbors, to say the least.

The 'beautiful' lake they have is always filled with scum or nasty chemicals which turn it blue. There is a HUGE wasp problem.

As for the staff, some are friendly but all are awkward at best. As if they are not there for you, they are there for the company and do not have your best interest at heart. And once again, this just makes you want to avoid contact with them.

To their credit, they do have a SWAT-like man come patrol the area for a few hours at night. They also have a landscaping crew who comes to keep the grounds, although this becomes very annoying because they do it really early in the morning for about 4 hours for some reason. They have held a movie event for free here (although it was done quite poorly) as well.

Compared to the apartments around here, they are all right, they are the cream of the crap. I would suggest that you pay a little more rent, if you can and live somewhere nicer. But if you can put up with all of the above, then go for it.

Oh I have worse stories but I didn't want to ramble. Anyway, I'm not sure there is much you can do about it. Although you can let me know if you do have a good idea.
