Don't get sucked in just because you have a pet!!!

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

I go to Seminole Community College and my girlfriend goes to UCF and Arbour is within good distance of both as well as groceries, entertainment, and other amenities. The model apartment was pretty cute, they just about guaranteed me wood floors, and I could have my dog no problem! Don't let this fool you, as there are PLENTY of apartment complexes around campus that allow pets!
Well when the time came my wood floors were actually "fresh new carpet" which was about as new as the sky is green! The appliances are falling apart, my oven was sprayed with oven cleaner and never wiped out, and my pantry door had tomato sauce (or so I hope) splattered all over the inside. Needless to say they never cleaned that, even though I marked it on their required checklist and mentioned it a few times. My food disposal never worked and was not fixed until about two months before I moved out. The cabinets are disgusting and falling apart. There is a spray painted sheet of plywood between my unfinished cabinet and my stove, which wobbles by the way. The same stove that only has three working burners and when I mentioned it to Vanessa at the leasing office she told me "oh yeah mine does that too." After about two months I took my dog back to live with my parents because it just wasn't working out and decided to get one of my own. When I signed my lease they told me I could have any dog unless it was a Pit Bull and as long as it was under 100 pounds. I have nothing against Pit Bulls but EVERYONE has one, and I'm talking Pit Bulls that would never in a million years pass as mixed dogs! Vanessa herself told me she has one when I moved in!
The "free internet and cable" sucks beyond belief. The internet goes out all the time and there is nothing you can do about it. The company is called Ygnition and their cable doesn't give you basic cable channels like Animal Planet! The free water only stays hot for about three minutes. When it stays hot longer then watch out because it's about to go on a roller coaster off hot/cold, hot/cold, hot/cold. Once the power went out about three hours before work, so I went and asked the maintenance guy who was "fixing" it how much longer it would be because I had to shower before work. He told me to "relax because the power would be on soon and I could go back to watching my cartoons and I probably didn't care if he died just as long as the power came back on."
Another day I plugged my computer in and started an electrical fire! When I called maintenance Juan came in, changed the outlet and said "yeah it was installed wrong. Have a good day." Another time my lights/fan in my bathroom went out and I went four months with a lamp in the bathroom before they fixed anything. They cut wholes in the wall to get to the breaker box that was painted shut and dropped all sorts of nasty things in my fish tank that was sitting under it.
The latest event is that there was a leak in the apartment under mine and they could not for the life of them figure out where it was coming from. I willingly let them in about five different times to snoop around my apartment and they just barged in another time although I am pretty certain I signed something that says they can't do that because I have a dog. They also walked in while I was in class and scared my 15 year old brother who was sleeping on my couch half to death. After I thought it was all fixed and over and NEW TENANTS moved in downstairs they called me to tell me to turn the air off and that they would be in to fix it the following day because there was a leak downstairs. It was about 85-90 degrees outside and I kindly told them I could not do that because I had guests over for memorial day. They hung up on me and came knocking on my door at 8 a.m. and woke up half my visiting family. Again I kindly told them I had family over who were staying in the living room where they would have to work and they would have to come back later. 8:35 a.m. they were back and then I turned them away again the "Arbour Apartments manager" called me to ask me if I could please let them in because "she understood how I felt but they really had to fix the leak". I said it was fine as long as they came back in about a half hour so I could clear out the living room. Two hours later they hadn't come and when I called back the number that called me and Juan, very rudely, told me that he had gone out to lunch and that I could wait. Another half hour later Diego showed up at my door, confused, and not even knowing why he was their. Despite their lack of communication Diego fixed the problem in a matter of about 20 minutes and reassured me he knew how to fix it all along if only people would let him.
As far as the "amenities" go: the front "patio/balconies" are just the deck that connects the four apartments together and if you live on the bottom floor it is always flooded. The breakfast bars are only available in certain units and it is not noted on the website. The pest control was one guy who came once in the whole year I was there and sprayed my dog as he walked by. The sparkling swimming pools are full of dog hair and probably feces as well and the sand volleyball court is nothing more that a flea filled sand box. The basketball court does not allow pets and the tennis courts is falling apart. The state of the art fitness center is pretty gross and you have to pay money to get a card to open the door and while the laundry centers are open 24 hours the card that operates them can only be re-charged at the leasing office so you better hope you don't run out of cash after the office closes. I have never seen the sauna or BBQ picnic area and the car was station is a quarter operated hose that barely runs water and all drains into the pool area. There are constantly raccoons and armadillos that LOVE to hang out on the "patio/balconies."
The noise might just be the biggest factor, as the walls are paper thin and the floor is too. I could hear my back neighbors showering every morning and my downstairs neighbors talking, yelling, closing doors, listening to music, baby crying, and dog barking. There is no doubt however that my downstairs neighbors could hear my as they were always hitting their ceiling/my floor when I can friend's over and stomping up my stairs to tell me to shut the **** up. As far as security goes, I once called the leasing office to complain about my neighbors fighting and getting violent and they told me to call the cops because they didn't care.
All in all the rent gets pretty cheap, 425 is the lowest I have heard, but it can get as high as 8-something I think. There are plenty plenty plenty other places to live for that price and if you have a friend, then move in together and save your money! Look around and don't get sucked in because you have a pet!
