I WOULD NEVER LIVE HERE AGAIN!!!

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I lived at Dover Village Apartments for 2 and 1/2 years, and finally had enough of the poor service. I would never recommend this complex to any person considering renting an apartment in the Orlando area. There are MANY nicer complexes, with competetive rent amounts and spacious floorplans.
Maintenance from the very beginning of my lease was a serious problem. The air conditioner was over 25 years old and I was told from an outside A/C repair man that the unit should have been replaced years ago. It continually froze up (literally, it looked like the old type of freezer that needed defrosting), would quit working, and then it would thaw out and flood the carpet in the living room and hallway. Several (expensive) pieces of solid oak furniture and my sofa were ruined. Management's (somewhat flippant) response: "Your renter's insurance should take care of that." They didn't take care of the mildewed carpet, ensuing mold within the walls, or the mold damage to the walls and baseboards. (One maintenance person did show up with a small can of paint to try to cover the black mold. I had five separate incidents with serious A/C problems, none of which were ever resolved. Oh, did I mention that my electric bills were $160 in the summer months' For one person!
Bugs, bugs, bugs! There are bugs at Dover Village that even the guys at Lowe's don't know what they are! Pest exterminators would come in once a month and spray the counter tops in the kitchen. That does not even come close to being effective. I had bugs in all rooms and in everything imaginable, from food to fabric. I should own stock in Zip-lock and Tupperware now, having to buy enough to store everything in bug-proof containers! Yeah, Florida does have it's share of nasty bugs. Haven't seen even one ant in my new place.
While I lived here, management decided to refurbish the exteriors of the buildings. Several boards were replaced, and in doing so, damage to the interior walls of my apartment occurred. This was never fixed, just sort of forgotten.
On two occasions I could not get home because Grant was completely blocked by Orlando Police. Seemed that there was someone running around with a gun, or that someone had been shot. Many nights OPD or the fire department was called to the complex. My car was vandalized twice. It's not a place that I felt safe. There is a monitored security system, if it works. Mine registered 3 false alarms in one week and the security folks could not find any problems with the system. On the fourth false alarm (at this point OPD was threatening fines), I quit using the system.
Advice' Look for an apartment that has been rated on this site. I wish I had checked this site before I rented at Dover Village. Live and learn...
