nice but thin

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
i live in a second story 3/2. the indoor private staircase is excellent. the floors/walls are very thin, you can jump and feel the floor shake. lots of apartment noise leaks through, even from downstairs neighbors.
its not that big of a deal though, unless you have an apartment full of low class girls blasting bad rap metal with full bass.
there are a ton of kids in this community, as it is government subsidized. theyre all nice though and seem respectful. i see a lot of familes out together playing and barbequing. definately not a completely gangster low income complex. though there are some. one night out of the past 8 months, was there a huge thug life party that started to get out of hand. the cops were all over it though.
parking isnt horrible, but you may sometimes have to walk about 20 feet to your apartment. not far enough away to be a big deal, but not always parking right at your doorstep.
landscaping/grounds is near impeccable. very clean and kept. lights are always working outside.
safety: in my old apartment in OAKWOOD VILLAGE in WINTER PARK that got B R O K E N I N T O, the front doors opened in to the apartment, therefore making it easy to kick in. here at east lake, the doors swing outside and are quite heavy, with the door jamb on the inside of the apartment, so it would be impossible to kick in. never got renters insurance but its always a good idea to get it. you never know.
AIRFLOW - BIG PROBLEM
the master bedroom window faces exactly due east, and the sun beats down hard on the room. every other room in the apartment is fine as there is no direct sunlight whatsoever. if you open the window, you can see the entire structure/wall is only about 3 inches thick. i highly doubt there is good if any insulation in there. the room seems to be hotter even at night too.
maintanence is good. they check the W/D, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinquishers about twice a year. nothing has broken, the complex was built in 2000.
the office staff is very nice, but the women in there dont always know proper procedure of business practices. for income verification, i was told to bring two paystubs, so i did. then i go in and they said "oh, woops, like you need to get two consecutive pay stubs. teehee!" eventually the application process was complete.
overall, i would recommend this complex. its highly rare that youll get a real noisy neighbor, but most noise is minimal. rent is affordable, and the free monster club for kids is an excellent opportunity for working parents to put their kids in good hands.
