Good apartments, but a heads up on parking...

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I've lived here for under 6 months, so perhaps I don't have tons of perspective to share, but my observations so far...
Parking - yeah, it's not so fun. Each apartment, regardless of size, has 1 assigned parking space. There are a few visitor spaces mixed throughout the complex, but they fill up pretty fast and if you have more than one driver in your apartment or want to have guests over in the evening, somebody's going to do some walking. There is a much larger section of visitor spots which usually has open spaces, but it is only in one corner of the complex, so frequently people park along the curbs, which can occasionally be tricky when navigating the turns in the roads. The lot was recently repaved and announced that there would be more visitor spaces, but it turns out they didn't find a way to pull them out of thin air, and everything stayed the same except for 3-4ish new spots, 2 of which are now blocked with cones. At the end of the repaving we got a notice that they'd be cracking down more on the curb-parkers (it IS a fire hazard, but once you live here for a week, you understand everyone's desperation). I'm not sure if that's happened or not.
All of that said, I've never had a problem with someone parking in my one assigned spot. It's just a pain with 2 cars, so if you don't want to walk a ways or park illegally, get an apartment with a garage so you have both that and the space outside it.
I haven't had any problems with noise or safety. When I first moved in, I had a lot of maintenance requests, but they were for things that would have been hard to notice in a general inspection, and I only noticed them after a few days of occupying the place. All were responded to within a day of my submitting the requests, and the maintenance guys are very friendly and accommodating.
The front office staff has only been friendly to me - I haven't experienced any of the duplicity others have described. Even when I had multiple maintenance requests or problems with deliveries (problems with the carrier), the office staff was friendly and helpful, not antagonistic.
They have a nice exercise room, but it keeps pretty busy, so you have to keep experimenting to see what time of day you can get a routine going for. They also have a club house room with a pool table, a TV and I think a Wii that people can either stop by during business hours or talk to them about using after business hours. That's new, so I don't know if they have a formal process for using the room yet or not.
Overall I've been happy so far, and the only down side (and it's really down!) is parking for a 2nd car. But I feel the price of a non-garage unit is so much better than other comparable apartments in the area that it makes up for it. So whenever I or a guest have to walk to park, I just chant the rent difference to myself.
