Estates at Park Avenue
AVERAGE RATING

I moved in to the Estates in July of 2007 and I am currently still living here. I don't mind it here and it is a lot better than my old apartments. There are ups and downs to this apartment complex (just like any other complex).
THE UPS
The gym, pool, and movie theater are very nice and there are rarely people there so it is nice and quiet (at least when I go). If you have a pet, don't tell them and don't pay the fee. I have cats and they do not know. If they catch you then just pay the fee. Maintenance people don't care about animals, they are just kinda there. This is also the only apartment complex I've been to that doesn't have a broken gate. It was broken for a day, but it was quickly fixed. They give you a scan card for the gates, but you can purchase a keychain fob which I find very useful (especially the side gates). There are many police officers who live in the complex and there is usually one at the front of the complex (if not then there are a few in the neighboring apartments). Overall I feel safe in the complex, and I have walked the complex all hours of the night. There is also valet trash if you wish to purchase it. If not you have to lug it to the dumpster. The rooms are all decent sized as well, and I have the loft apartment which makes the rooms even bigger.
THE DOWNS
The walls are paper thin. That is the number one problem. I can hear my TV on low in the living room next to the master bedroom. I can hear a phone ring next door. When I say paper I am not lying. My neighbors luckily are not noisy, so I don't really mind the walls, but some people may. Maintenance is not the quickest here. There not bad, just not good. Also make sure you make a list of EVERYTHING that needs repairs when you move in and take pictures if you can. They tried blaming us for broken blinds that were like that when we moved in. The wiring in the house is kind of weird. In each room there is a light switch that is connected to an outlet, but sometimes random switches will briefly restart what it is plugged into. Management is also pretty crazy when it comes to rents and fees. If rent is late a day they threaten eviction (happened to me). I also left my trash in front of my door for 10 minutes because it was full and I was on my way out to throw it out and I got a letter on my door that if it happened again I would have to pay a fee.
Parking is possibly and up and down. There are no assigned spots unless you have a garage. There are never any spots at night, but before 6-7ish there are spots. People park all over the place (curbs, grass) and don't get ticketed. They gave out warnings once when I first moved in, but nothing since. It isn't too bad or obnoxious, just occasionally there will be that one car blocking traffic.
For the most part this place is good, there are a few negatives but it'll be like that wherever you live.

I completely agree with the previous statement. For the area of MetroWest a lot of friends doubt visiting at first, until they see it. It's not one of those complexes that just 'look nice' in the picture of apartment guides, but they are actually decent looking. My main concerns currently living here are parking and the noise level. I work at a restaurant, so when I come home at midnight and 1am, there is NO parking. I generally park a building or two away, which bothers me, but I try not to walk alone. We use to be the 'curb parkers' but like previously stated, they are trying to put an end to that by towing. I have sometimes not even left my apartment on a Sunday in the evening, if I feel is isn't necessary in fear I will not keep good parking. =] As far as noise goes, we hear our neighbors fight all the time, and if it is quite in our place, you can hear distinct conversations (and crying) on their side. We live on the 3rd floor and unfortunately our 2nd level neighbor is not the friendliest and twice has made a visit to ACCUSE us of being too loud, in incidences when we "walked too hard coming home" or played loud music (which turned out to be our tv). Obviously they are too sensitive to noises and shouldn't live in 2 out of 3 levels.
But OVERALL, I am very satisfied with my year lease and plan on renewing (hoping rent does not increase).
