BLACK MOLD all over!

I thought this place would be great considering all the ammeneties that the apartment has. Full size washer and dryer, formal dining room, large master bedroom, tile throughout, and a fenced in back yard. I signed my lease thinking that I was going to be getting something nicer.
When I moved in, I had their washer and dryer removed so I could use mine which are larger. That should have been my first hint. There was an enormous wet spot behind the washer. When I told the complex manager about it, she said that it had just been plastered and that it would dry up. Upon closer inspection, I could see where the mold had simply been painted over. Once I found that spot, I went looking for more mold. What I found was absolutely disgusting. The entire underside of the bathroom cabinets and behind the toilets, all in the HVAC closet, in the hot water heater closet, and in my kitchen cabinets. I told Tina about it and she had maintenence come in and "clean" it. Come to find out, after doing extensive research on black mold, you can't simply "clean" it. Everything that has mold on it has to be removed and replaced. She refused to accept this even after I brought her my research.
I asked to be allowed out of my lease and she refused, saying that I'd have to pay their fees to get out of it. I am still fighting with her about it. I am currently waiting for my scheduled appointment with the Orange County Building Inspector so that everything can be documented.
And the mold only starts off the problems. If it rains a lot, I get water coming into my bedroom, kitchen, and dining room through the wall on the floor. (No wonder their bottom floors are tiled!) Everything in my apartment is simply falling apart. The vinyl stripping in my kitchen is coming off to reveal yet more mold. The dishwasher is absolutely disgusting. The ClosetMaid in all the closets is coming down because it's NAILED in instead of SCREWED in like it's supposed to be. The window in the master bedroom leaks every time it rains and it's a piece of PLASTIC to cover the window instead of glass. There are ants all over the apartment no matter how much I clean, I spray, or have maintence come spray. I won't even look into my AC/heating vents because I can see mold in every single one of them. There is a PUDDLE under my HVAC unit. The AC is too small to adequately cool 1,100 square feet without the power bill being astronomical. The master bathroom cabinet is actually pulling away from the wall because it's so warped. It was .25" when I moved in, it's now at over 1" away from the wall and maintence does nothing except put more and more caulk into the gap. When I moved in, the master bathroom ceiling was actually sagging and was completely soft to the touch. It was finally replaced, but now there are actually GAPS all along where the wall meets the ceiling. Maintence is shoddy at best. There is one maintence man who does try is best with what he's given and he truly is a wonderfully polite person who is more than willing to work around your schedule, but the rest of them are worthless. When my AC was out for a week, yes, an entire week during the summer, one of the maintence men was going to replace the thermostat. Well, he was kind enough to leave LIVE wires sticking 4" out of the wall at EYE level. Not that I'm dumb enough to walk into them, but still. That's beyond unprofessional. When the preferred maintence man came in to finish the job that the other one had FORGOTTEN about, he could not believe what he'd done.
Look, all in all, this place seems great. But you should really look somewhere else. I know it's hard to pass up because of some of the nicer aspects of it, but they really aren't worth the health of yourself, your family, and your pets. I know that so many people aren't quick to give credit where credit is due and they only have something to say when it's negative, but honestly consider another complex before signing a lease at Knight's Landing. Also, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to e-mail you pictures of the problems I have mentioned.
