I've called security and have had no response. No wonder the murderers and rapists come here. They casn do whatever they want and get away with it!!! qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai

The sounds of a rape reached a 911 operator over an open telephone line early Friday while Orlando police raced toward the victim's MetroWest apartment.

Minutes before the call, a man pushed his way into the apartment after following the woman home. He caught her as she tried to slam shut the front door, police said.

Threatening her with a revolver, the man moved through the apartment waking her two roommates. He held the roommates at gunpoint and made them watch the assault, according to Orlando police.

"One of them had the presence of mind to dial 911 and drop the phone by her side," police Lt. Orlando Rolon said Friday afternoon.

Officers reached the Marina Landing apartments on Westgate Drive within three minutes of the 911 operator hearing the rape victim's cries in the background of the 4:23 a.m. call, police said.

But by then, the rapist had fled and eluded seven patrol cars that immediately cordoned off the apartment building and surrounding area, police said.

Police said the man, unlike many rapists, didn't try to hide his face.

"We're hoping somebody recognizes him," said Detective Robert Averill, holding a composite sketch of the man believed to be in his early 20s.

The suspect spoke with a Spanish accent and appeared to be 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weigh about 180 pounds. He wore glasses and styled his curly hair with gel, sweeping it backward to just above his shoulders, according to the description provided by the three women.

Members of the sex-crimes unit are reviewing rapes and other unsolved crimes against women. But police said they but do not see any ties to Friday's attack.

Friday's victim told detectives she thinks the rapist followed her from the area of Kirkman Road and Raleigh Street in west Orlando.

She remembered seeing an older, dark-colored compact vehicle with round headlights behind her vehicle as she drove home, police said. The suspect's car made a distinctly loud exhaust noise, possibly from a custom muffler, police said.
