My lease expired May 08. I had lived there for 2 years and was always prompt with my rent. I did not cause any problems and generally fixed things myself instead of calling maintenance. So, I've left Mission Bay and am still looking for my security deposit. I have repeatedly contacted the Leasing office but no success. I reminded the office that FL statute governs tenants rights and that exerpts of the FL statutes are in the lease. The landlord has 30 days to return the security deposit if they intend to deduct certain costs, ie water bill, unpaid rent, etc. If they have no intentions, they must return the deposit in 15 days. At least, that is how I am interpreting the state law.
Its now over 51 days from lease expiration and I still don't have my security deposit. Am I the only one with this problem'

I had the same problem. I moved out in August of 2008. I hadn't heard from Mission Bay by mid September so I started calling. They informed me that I was getting part of my security deposit back and that I should've been receiving it in the following couple of weeks. It was mid October the next time I called (because of course the check mysteriously disappeared in the mail)and they informed me that the check was sent back to them due to postal problems on my end, of course. The postal problems were then fixed on my end and I asked them to send it again. The check mysteriously disappeared AGAIN so I called and informed them that I had complied with my end of the rental agreement and that they should in turn comply with theirs (for legal reasons) and gave them my current address to send it to. I finally received my check THREE MONTHS LATER, and it doesn't end there. I had two other roommates living with me, and so of course, they placed all three of our names on the check, only to make it harder and more time-consuming for us to get our money back because banks are a pain in the ass when it comes to cashing checks with more than one name on it. So to sum everything up, I truly believe Mission Bay tries to make it as hard as possible for their former tenants to receive their security deposits back, even after we left the apartment as we received it (which wasn't that great). Not only that, but they informed my mother, who paid the security deposit in the beginning, that she would be receiving the security deposit in the end since she paid for it in the beginning. Obviously not the case.
