Fine if everything runs smoothly

Park Avenue is a great place to live if everything is running smoothly. What I mean by that is, when the weather is great, when life is great, when the universe is perfectly spinning away...then there are no problems at Park Avenue.
But we live in reality here. Not everything is perfect.
Park Avenue runs smoother than most apartment complexes I've lived in, but they don't seem to like it when something goes wrong. Whether it be a problem with teenagers skateboarding at all hours, trash around the complex, parking, or hurricanes moving in. Whatever the problem is, they don't like dealing with it. They want to close their eyes and revolve happily in their quiet reality that is peaceful and perfect.
Wouldn't we all'
The bad news:
Parking is a big problem. If you're not home by 6pm...be prepared to walk.
Management comes up with "quick fix" solutions for any problems (like I said, if everything runs smoothly...) such as towing cars with no decal, towing cars after a certain time, etc. When they were towing the cars of pizza delivery men and visiting family (or God forbid your date should want to stay over) then they realized that they might not like this plan. More like the residents complained like none other.
I pay over $1000 a month to live here, only to have my GUESTS have a 10pm curfew. Yeah, who thought up that one' (It is gone now)
Do kids around here have parents' Teenagers are allowed to run around at all hours with their loud voices and skateboards. I must admit that it has gotten better, but I put the success in the hands of the families that moved out of here. Not Park Avenue actually doing something about it. (I called to let them know that the teenagers were blocking the roads and not letting cars by. Only when I called back to tell management that the teenagers were pulling garbage out of the compactor got management out here to do something about it.) QUICK FIX!
Maintenance is a lot like the Keystone Cops around here. They drive around in their souped up scooters and aid in the quick fixes. Three hurricanes have hit us and STILL the doors on the trash compactor are broken. Big deal right' Try sleeping when the doors bang LOUDLY as they slam open and slam closed. Over and over and over and over all...night...long. How long has Park Avenue known about this' WEEKS. Fixed' They put a little wire on the door to hold it through 85mph winds. Wire around a round pole in the door. Wire that was thinner than a clothes hangar and was supposed to hold two fifty-eighty pound doors from 85mph winds.
Took a neighbor parking his car almost inside the compactor to stop the doors from slamming all night.
We signed a yearly lease with two months free rent. They made the lease 14 months long so that we would still pay them the full 12 months of rent. (Tried to do it secretly mind you.) I know this is business, but that is BAD business.
They plan on making these condos with the option of buy or get out when your lease comes up. Have they told their residents this yet' Nope. Some of my neighbors have leases coming up in January. Have they been told to look elsewhere' Nope.
And while we're on these being condos...who thought that up' They're great apartments. Don't get me wrong. They're WONDERFUL apartments. But condos' Uh uh.
The Good:
Neighbors are wonderful. Sure there's the few that are rude or don't speak to anyone. (We suspect they're in the witness protection plan...lol) Overall, the people who move into Park Avenue are wonderful and anyone would enjoy having them as neighbors. Of my seven neighbors, we are considering moving to a new place together with 4 of them. (All who have the same complaints we do about Park Avenue.) Great people within.
Security is great. The security guards at the front are wonderful and they always answer promptly. I have only had to call them twice since I've lived here, and both times they took care of the problem ASAP.
The apartments are really nice. I won't lie about that. They are insulated really well, you never hear your neighbors (except ones above from time to time) and the layouts are great. I do wish there was more storage (We have NONE. Not kidding. Literally, not even a coat closet.) but storage is a problem in most apartment complexes.
Those are the good and bad things with Park Avenue. Would I recommend it' Probably. I've lived in MUCH worse places. I just think that there are much better out there too. For the "Holy Grail" of apartment complexes (called that by most other complexes) I think there are some really big things they need to take care of.
As I sit here, listening to the trash compactor doors slam over and over, my message is clear to Park Avenue. So take it to heart: It's the little things that make people happy.

When was the last time that everything ran smoothly here? Do you have the mold growing in your place? If not, consider yourself blessed. How many friends have been blocked by security because they weren't sneaking through like everyone else does? What's the point of having a gate if 10 cars can get through on each opening? Parking has always sucked. What's up with that Lexus that's parked illegally? People don't expect it and have to jam on the brakes. That's an actual problem that management won't do anything about. But, they do like to warn you about covering your grill so the place looks good to potential buyers. Also just talked to a neighbor who's moving out because of the roaches. Nice. Just moved in and moving right out. Don't blame them a bit. Maybe they'd be treated if they used a real company instead of "joe blows bug be gone." I do like your description of the maintainance workers in their golf carts. I wish they'd hired nicer people for that position. So, when are things running smoothly? |
