Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007

I lived at Riverpark Apartments for almost three years and found this place to be nice at first but as time went on things proceeded to get worse and worse. We moved in right before the hurricanes of 2004 hit and luckily our apartment was one of the few that faired rather well during the storms. However, we paid dearly for all the damage they had. When our lease renewed the following year, the same apartment had gone up over $175/month. I understand there is usually a small increase but this was rather ridiculous. Then this same year I also decided to buy a dog and when I went to leave the pet deposit I found out that the pet deposit had doubled and now I was charged over $850 in pet deposit just to have my dog. Not to mention the $10/month increase in rent. Then we renewed one more time and with our renewal came another $100 increase in rent. So over a two and a half year period the rent went up almost $300.

Now on to the staff in the office. When I originally signed my lease I signed with Debbie. She was the nicest person that has ever worked in the Riverpark Office. Everyone else who has been in there are some of the laziest people I have ever met in my entire life. They do not even come out of their office to greet you. They yell how can I help you from the office and make you walk over to them so they don't have to get out of the chair. Then they could care less why you are even in the office. They don't smile, look angry because you bothered them, and are annoyed because someone came in. I can't even count how many staff members have been in and out of there since I lived there.

The last bit of complaint I have is with the AC Units of the buildings. They have managed to install new appliances, paint the buildings twice, and when I was moving out they were installing new windows. However it shocks me to see a $175 electric bill every month when the thermostat is kept at 78-80 degrees. The units are constantly running because they are so outdated. I have recently moved into a 2100 sq ft house with a pool that has a lower electric bill than the 2 bedroom apartment.

This leads me to my last point CHECK FRAUD. While living here in my final months which was February - June 2007. I also became a victim of check fraud. Now I only wrote one check per month and that was to Riverpark Apartments. Somehow, someone printed false checks with my account number on them with someone else's name and address. They were then passed at such places as Stride Rite, Payless, and Autozone. Nearly $700 was taken out of my account in one day. I filed a reports with the Sanford police department as this is where all of these checks were passed at. I also have a report filed with the Sanford police department about this. At the time I had no idea of involvement of Riverpark but became suspicious as this was the only place I ever wrote a check at. Now that I have moved back to Tampa I stumbled across the news report about this investigation and I am not surprised in the least bit. I am convinced that Riverpark has some sort of involvement as it is not a coincidence that 18 residents of the same community all fall victim to check fraud during the same time period with all similar stories. I personally handed a check to at least 3-4 different people in that office during my time with Riverpark. So the line that says they are under camera is false. Many people have seen checks from me over my time with them. I am interested to hear from others who also fell victim to Check Fraud while living here and I would like to get in contact with the investigator pursuing this case. In today's society with so many falling victim to identity theft it is sad to hear a story of this nature. I am going to be calling my investigator from the Sanford Police Department this week to notify him of the information I have just learned today. I appreciate the person that reported the link to the news story and look forward to any furthur information people stumble accross.
