...and then it got worse

We moved into this place because we were new to the area and it was in our price range and convenient to work etc. We had no major problems the first year; our main complaints having more to do with a couple of AC leaks and our multitude of noisy neighbors(despite rules to the contrary, many of the 1 and 2 bedroom apartments seem to have 6-9 adults living in them).
We renewed our lease to continue saving money...and then it got worse.
A week into the new lease we had to do an emergency relocation into a different unit because a major pipe under our foundation was leaking and flooding our end of the building with water. This happened in the evening and management refused to shut off the water. We then had to move our entire apartment in less than 48 hours while a man with a jackhammer tore up kitchen and living room trying to find the leak (still hadn't shut off the water). This is what 30 year old construction can get you.
We transferred into a newly remodeled unit and it has been nothing but problems ever since.
A month later we got a call that workmen are there (that day) to get in and replace the windows with larger ones up to code. This came as a surprise. Then it took 3 months for them to provide blinds for these different windows. The brand new AC was extremely loud and started leaking all over our hallway. In the winter we tried turning on the heat but it didn't work. It took multiple visits and over 3 weeks to get fixed, culminating in me at the office yelling about Landlord Tenant Act and freezing temperatures.
We've never seen a work order or note left behind to indicate maintenance has been here.
The coin-op laundry is like playing roulette - every week it's a different machine thats left your clothes wet.
Pest control is a joke. They weren't automatically visiting and it took a month of complaining to finally get someone down here. When they did come (a couple days ago) they were unable to spray because get this - THEY HAD LOST THE KEY TO OUR APARTMENT. It get worse. We got the locks changed today and were picking up the key as another tenant was complaining about the same exact problem (among other things).
Security is so lax as to be almost nonexistent. They claim to have two security officers patrolling every night; but I have not seen them in over 3 months and when I did see them before they were always just smoking cigarettes in their van. In February, a man was chased and gunned down in the parking lot. Management told us face-to-face have changed their security company and are looking into getting a neighborhood watch, but we haven't seen any signs or postings about it.
We are moving because we can get a much safer and nicer place for a little more rent.
Word to the wise - get everything in writing, document how thoroughly you get screwed as it happens. The minor stuff can add up to a big deal if it draws a pattern.
