I'm pretty sure 3 murders (one of them at Sabal Palms I) within a six month period, several rapes, armed robberies, muggings, break ins, etc, constitute high crime, and Sabal Palms is right next to the Hub of it.
Marina Landings is just down the street and seems to be the hub for criminal activity in the area, in recent months it has spilled over to The Azur (Formerly Colonial Grand at metrowest) and Sabal Palms.
We recently moved out of the area, and did not live in sabal palms, however we did live in The Azur at metrowest, and it was big news when the the guy at sabal palms was murdered right outside of his town home while his wife and children watched. He was shot in the back of the head as the robbers left his townhome. We still have not heard if the 2 suspects were ever caught. This has become pretty typical for Metrowest ever since Wallmart and Winn Dixie opened up shop (both right around the corner.) and now that Walgreens is 24/7, we have even more undesirables coming into the area at all times of the night.
Stay away from metrowest unless the place has 24/7 security (and I mean GOOD/ARMED security, like off duty Orlando P.D.) which sabal palms does not.
Parking is nightmarish, We've seen/spoken to people from the Azur and Sabal palms who have had to park down at the winn dixie lot and walk the block or two home at the end of a long day.
Metrowest is not a safe place anymore, and all the condo conversions are doing is bringing in more people. 6-8 person families are buying up 1 bedroom condo's because it's the only way they can afford to live and are bringing the crime with them.
The poor have to go somewhere, and with even ghetto apartments charging $900.00 a month for rent, the poor figure they might as well band together and move someplace nicer. Only the crime is coming with them in droves. Best just to stay away from this area all together.
We saw the same thing happen several years ago when a Walmart opened up shop in a small community and then they went 24/7, the area turned into a dump within months afterwards. Pah.
