Science Drive...more like drive away

So you want to move into Science Drive' Here is a list of why you should
reconsider:
-If you think you are moving into a safe, gated community, think again. You put down a $50 deposit for a gate clicker and the gate is never closed. When I call to ask about the gate they say that it is broken because some one ran their car into it and that it will be fixed ASAP. I have lived here for almost 2 years now and I haven't once used the gate clicker that I was forced to pay for because the gate has never been closed. If you aren't responsible and can't remember to lock your door you might get robbed or raped (god forbid).
-I was so excited to move out of the dorms into my first apartment until I actually got there to find it a mess. There was glass all over the apartment and a sticky red kool-aid substance all over the kitchen floor. They replaced the carpet in the living room and 2 of the bedrooms. My carpet was not replaced and I don't know why because it was disgusting. There was a lump under the carpet by my bathroom. I thought maybe there was a small animal under it. There were also vomit colored stains all over my room. I wouldn't be surprised if it was actual vomit. I was so grossed out that I was forced to wear sandals in my own bedroom until Science Drive got sick of me calling and bitching about needing new carpet. My stove had food caked on all over it, inside and out, especially on the burners. The microwave looked as if something exploaded in it. I was told that your $250 security goes to repairing the apartment for the next residents. I was wondering what they did with the persons deposit before mine since my apartment was never cleaned. I hope that I get more than my security deposit back. Since the cleaning lady never got to my apartment because it is in the back of the complex I cleaned my apartment myself and I think I should be paid for the job I did.
- There are no pets allowed in Science Drive but it doesn’t matter that there are rules because every one has one. Half of the people who have pets are not charged for them because they either work in the office, have friends who work in the office, or are dating the police man who patrols the complex. I called about my neighbor having a dog that barks all day long and the kid in the office said "Don’t worry she lives by me and I'll talk to her because we are friends and it is her dog from home that is just visiting." In the lease it says even if a pet is just visiting you will be charged $250. I ended up getting a cat because I thought that if everyone else can break the rules and get away with it, why cant I' Well I was of course charged the $250 since I don't have any friends who work in the office. I asked what the $250 was for and the office manager said it was for a special carpet cleaning for those who move in after and are allergic. Apparently he is the only one who knows about this "special cleaning" because exterminators have no clue what he is talking about.
-The electric cap is $120 a month. 2 of my roommates moved out and my roommate who lives in the apartment with me is never home and neither am I so I don't understand how we can go over by $20 a person every month when we make sure that everything is off. Also don't ask Science Drive to change your light bulbs they will tell you that they are 69 cents at Wal-Mart and to do it yourself.
-Parking is ridiculous. There isn’t enough parking for the residents and there are about 20 visitor spots for the whole complex. If I go out and come back late at night and the only place to park is 3 buildings away it scares me because the recent rapes and robberies.
-Noise is a huge problem. I don’t think that they should allow elephants to live in Science Drive. The girls who live above me must be 293589864 pounds because I hear everything they do. They are super loud and run back and fourth through the apartment at 2am. I can also hear people peeing and puking in the apartment next to me.
-Maintenance is pretty good and they usually come out to fix things in a timely matter when the office gets around to telling them. I have complained about my dryer on numerous occasions. It takes at least 4 cycles for the clothes to dry even if it is a small load. At one point my washer started smoking and ruined all of my clothes so I was given a new washer but they don’t care about my dryer. Apparently everyone has the same complaint and no one has gotten a new dryer. Maybe that is why I always go over on my electric.
-My mail has been lost on numerous ocassions and if it does come it gets put in your box about 5 days after it actually arrived. One time I have got my mail and found it to actually be opened! I think it is illegal to open someone elses mail but I don't know what specific person opened it so I couldn't do anything about it.
-Roomate matching is a joke. I was placed into an apartment with losers who sat on the couch and wasted away watching TV and playing video games all day. I would leave for class and come back 6 hours later to find them sitting in the same spot. I was never able to nap or sleep because they TV in the living room was blasting. One roommate actually had the nerve invite their boyfriend to live in her room with her and the office didn't care. I also complained about weed being smoked in my living room and of course nothing was done about it. I was placed in an apartment with disgusting slobs who didn't care about anyone but themselves (and their TV).
All in all I had a bad experience at Science Drive. Yes, it is next to campus, it has a bus, and the rooms are huge and I think that compared to other student housing this one is one of the better complexs but I think to avoid all of the problems you would have to move into a non affiliated apartment or a house.

Parking, noise, roommates, maintenance, fees... you do a lot of complaining for saying it is "one of the better complexes" to live in. Why don't you try moving back into the dorms. Apparently someone like you isn't ready to deal with normal college apartment living. You'll find that EVERYWHERE.

Just because the average quality of life in complexes in Orlando is ------ doesn't mean you have to put up with it. Just because you find it everywhere doesn't mean it's good. This review was completely accurate of the accomodations (or lack there of) of Science Drive, as another dissatisfied tenant here I can attest to that.

I agree with everything you said. I lived there in 2001 and when we first moved in we had to get the door from the model b/c ours was broke - as in broke i could take a butter knife to unlock the door broke - and they said it would take a whole month to get a new one. One girls mom was like no i don't think so... you take the door off your place or find one to make sure my kid at least has a front door that locks. I had pretty good roommates - but I worked full time so I wasn't usually home that much - so I was never home to see what they were doing and I pretty much left them alone and vice versa. We did have one girl who was really weird - she wouldn't use our vacuum for her room and when she left she crap in the laundry room - literally she shite in the laundry room and left her mop and a bucket to try and cover - (meanwhile i come home that night and my front door is unlocked) - which was nasty and the front office sent a cleaner in the morning to take care of it. After the door thing and one or two noise complaints I didn't really have much of a problem getting things done b/c i worked for a orange county dispatch and had no qualms about calling into to dispatch. And do not call me a witch - if you could you would too! No one and I mean no one needs to have a party every single night - especially on sunday nights
