I moved into Waldengreen in 1995. At the time the neighborhood was nice, the office staff was nice, and the property was well maintenanced. Over the years, however, the property changed management a few times, and went further down hill each time.

When I left Waldengreen, the neighborhood had gone from a quiet family neighborhood to a "wouldn't go outside at night" type of neighborhood. There seemed to be no end to the cars blasting music, sketchy looking people hanging out in the parking lot, prowling police cars, and helicopters hovering over with spotlights at night.

As for Waldengreen itself, the apartments are very old. The model that you see is far and away in much better shape than any of the actual apartments. None of the apartments I've been inside of there (I lived in 2 different apartments there, and have been inside a total of six) had ever been remodeled (like the model). The apartments don't look half bad when they have been polished and shined by the staff, but believe me, it is an illusion.

Among the biggest problems we had there were: major bug problems... especially cockroaches, fleas, and HUGE spiders. The spiders nest up in the vaulted ceiling beams, and often venture down the wall. One we had was literally 3 1/2 inches in diameter. In our 2nd, 2 bedroom apartment, we had a huge dust problem. I would dust and then 2 days later there would already be a visible coat of dust and debris all over everything. We also experienced the stray cat problem, which was incredibly stressful and heartbreaking.

Even though office and maintenance staff comes and goes, except for my first year there I never had a lot of luck with the staff. I also had a lot of trouble with maintenance calls not getting answered in a timely manner, or sometimes at all.

Bottom line is, if you are really desperate for a cheap apartment and don't mind living in a quasi-dump, go for it. Otherwise, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
