Overall Northgate is a pretty good place to live compared to the other places I looked at before deciding to live here. Ethernet - let's face it, the advertised "high speed ethernet" here sucks, it's slow, unreliable, and horrible for ping times for those of you who play online games. You're better off getting Road Runner (tack on $45 for it and you're better off splitting it with your roommates wirelesly, at least that's what I did). Phone isn't included, $21 ($8 with $13 taxes) for basic service from Bellsouth ($40 to setup if you haven't established an account already). Electric and water is included with the rent. My 4/2 apartment, which is $405 a month, is going to be $415 next year. We got $120 electric combined for all of us, but only for the first couple of months we went over the alotted amount. Apparently my roommates don't know how to manage the A/C correctly and know next to nothing about cooling and heating costs. But once I started regulating it, we haven't had an extra surcharge since. Furniture - mediocre, living room furniture is nice but hardly use it. Bedroom furniture is subpar, desk is horrible and not big enough to fit a 19" monitor on. Dresser handles break easily, bed quality is alright and mattress is worn out in the middle but gets better around the edges. My apartment got new carpet so that was actually nice when I moved in last August. Closet space is good for me, room is about the same size i would have in an on campus apartment and larger than a dorm there. But cheaper overall when you figure out the total costs. Maintenance - never used them, although they were speedy with my roommates requests. Always friendly though when riding around on the golf carts and got the job done. They will wake you up if they come in to fix something and you are sleeping however. Parking - never had a problem. If you park after 11pm you will more than likely have to park a short distance from your building unless you get lucky and find an open parking spot. There have been a high amount of car breakins though in the past months here, but also in other apartment complexes as well, so it's not an isolated incident. Noise - never had a problem, I live on the first floor and can count the number of times I've heard something upstairs on one hand. Roommates were quiet, although I could hear my roommate across from me talking a lot and when he closed the closet door without regard to the noise level he created when doing this. I recommend this place, but I also highly recommend living with people you know. Their roommate matching was alright, everyone in my apartment is quiet nonsmokers, but contrary to what they put on their application they are not clean at all. My roommate has never cleaned the bathroom once, and I am the only person to have cleaned the kitchen and vaccummed the common living area.
