A great place to live but not to call home

I lived at Northgate for my first 3 years of college and recently moved out. The best part about living there was the vicinity to campus... it takes literally minutes to get on campus. Also, I'm sure with the stadium opening, it will be very convenient to live there! However, the positive comments end there.
1- VISITOR PARKING: I lived in the back of the complex and I still hated it when my visitors had to park in the disgusting visitor lot. My boyfriend had his car mangled TWICE because the cement blocks for parking were not installed correctly. There are deep holes and when it rains... forget it. There are always tow trucks in there pulling cars out and drunk neighbors seem to find it funny to dump the muddy water in puddles all over visitors cars. Basically... people stopped visiting me. I can't imagine what it must have been like for visitors of building A or B that had to walk ALL the way to the front of the complex.
2- ROOM SIZE: This is why I eventually moved out. They claim that rooms are the same size... but watch out for that asterisk at the bottom of the page- ACTUAL room sizes may differ. In my 4/2 apartment, the rooms on one side were 9 by 9 foot and the others were 11 by 11. That extra 4 square feet makes a difference when you are in a room as small as the ones in northgate. If you are a girl, you will find yourself at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond scrambling to find shelving and other storage furniture since there is just NO ROOM in these rooms for everything I owned. My room looked cluttered even when it was clean, and once more than 2 people were in the room you start feeling a little claustrophobic. I guarantee you will move furniture at least 3 times in your room since you will be trying to figure out just HOW you can maximize the space in your room.
3- DUMB PEOPLE IN THE FRONT OFFICE: For a few months, after I paid rent on time or even early I would get notices saying that I needed to pay up and late fees. The first few times I went to the office and they said it was fine. After that, they started claiming that they never even got a check from me, even though it had already deposited (i.e.... the money was gone from my bank account!!!). They threatened me with eviction... and that month I had paid 3 days early! They wanted me to print out a bank account, provide them with all sorts of documentation. In the end, it turns out that THEY had my last name MISSPELLED in their computer system. I have been living there for years- how does this happen'' AND... how do you not catch this after the first or second time' The harassing for me to pay up was just absolutely ludacris. They called my parents (my guarantor) and told them that I was being evicted'' But I had already paid!
My other favorite story was when I got a fishtank for decorative purposes. We filled it up with water and colorful gravel- we did not have fish in the tank. The next day there was a paper on our door for a $100 fine for having a pet. What'' They would absolutely NOT believe that we had an empty fishtank and forced us to pay the fee. But seriously... how much damage are FISH going to be to an apartment even if we did own some' ....
LOUD NEIGHBORS: I never thought I would be the ----- that does this, but I had to call the police on the neighbors above me 3 times throughout the year because they had the loudest parties ever. The guy above me had the party speakers on the ground so the bass would vibrate and SHAKE my walls! This would go on until 3 or 4 in the morning sometimes, and I had 7:30 AM classes! I did ask them to turn down the volume, we even threatened them that we would call the police, but they persisted. This is why as much as I love UCF football- I got the HELL out of Northgate because it is going to be an absolute disaster on game days... good luck finding parking and sleeping!
SAFETY: Northgate had several car jackings and this summer there was a shooting! It is a poorly lit complex... always walk in the street back to your apartment ladies! Over the 3 years I lived there crime steadily increased and I no longer felt safe there.
In the end, Northgate was a convenient place to live but I am much happier in my extremely spacious non-college student community apartment that is a little further away from campus.
P.S. $420 is what I paid for 4/2 in 2004... since then the prices have skyrocketed, and this year a 4/2 is $500! What possibly could have changed to make an apartment nearly $1000 more expensive a year'

Hi, I'm a prospective UCF student looking for housing. Would you mind telling me a couple of places that you reccommend? Thanks!
